New laws took effect today, do you know what they are?

July 1st of each year is the day when new laws from the 2014 Georgia legislative session take effect each year.  Don't know what made it into law?  You can find the list signed by Governor Nathan Deal right here.

Lots of controversy surrounded the new expanded concealed carry law that will go into effect tomorrow. If you know me, you know what side of that issue I'm clearly on.  If you don't I'll keep my politics to myself.

Another law, that I was strongly in favor of that passed is  one that doesn't allow web sites to post mug shots and then charge people to take them down. Also passing was a law that made colleges lower the standard for "passing" the SAT to home schooled students.  That I really don't understand and don't think is good for our state or home schooled kids.

Another filled with controversy was the only pass in the fast lane on multi-lane roads.  So those folks who are driving slow in the fast lane and won't move over to the right... they could get a ticket now.  I'm curious to how much enforcement will come on this one.

We have a few new ones too.  Disclosure of Meth Lab being the biggie.

I like the one where they can get a ticket for driving too slowly in the fast lane. We have a law like that of sorts but they don't enforce it. Most people just drive on the bumper of the car in front of them, as though sheer will could force them to move over, but those drivers are oblivious and the people tailgating are driving recklessly.

Cindy- that's interesting.

Elizabeth- seems to me it means people who are driving the speed limit need to get out of the way of speeders.  I think it's stupid.

If your state is like ours, that last one will rarely if ever be enforced.  I still see pokey people in that lane because, "four miles up head, Doris, we will be taking the road splits, and we need to be in this lane NOW!"  Whew!  he said, shaking his head!

Tammy, we can always count on you to alert us to changes. That last law you mentioned - wishful thinking, maybe!

Tammy, new laws are always hitting the books and the best time to address those issues is with your representatives ahead of the votes!  Otherwise, we just have to live with them unless we find like minded folks to really work for a repeal!

Ron- I wish they would write tickets for the "move over" law that says you have to move over for emergency vehicles.  Not that might save lives

Suzanne- it's hard to keep up, but I try

Suzanne M- the problem with that at a state level is the city dwellers have such a majority of representation when it comes to votes.
