A Utility Sink is a Must Have For a New Home

This month Beazer Homes has a challenge on Active Rain, asking participants to write a blog on a feature A Utility Sink is a Must Have For a New Homethey would like to find in a newly built home.  The one feature I would want in a new home, would be a utility sink in the garage or laundry room.

We had a utility sink in our laundry room in our previous home and I didn’t realize how much we would miss it when we no longer had it.  I personally really like to have a clean sink in the kitchen, free from dishes and especially free of dirt & grime. My husband and sometimes my stepson occasionally works on cars, or paints things and ends up with really dirty hands.  My husband usually washes his hands with the hose outside and some degreaser, but my stepson does not and he leaves the white sink in the kitchen really dirty quite often. This adds a good deal of anxiety to my life.

I like to do crafts and gardening.  I would especially love to have a separate sink for dealing with my gardening items, whether it be the smelly fish fertilizer, the garlic pesticide mixture or just washing out some pots.  I especially hate mixing the fish fertilizer in the kitchen sink and have to immediately sanitize the sink when I do.  It would also be nice for the paints I occasionally use for my crafts. I think all new homes should come with the separate sink, as almost anyone would find it useful. It would help to keep your beautiful shiny new kitchen that way for a lot longer.

There is nothing better then a big utility sink! Great write up!

Cathy, that is a very valuable suggestion. Putting the utility sink in the garage or the utility or mud room would be perfect. I am also a stickler for a neat and tidy kitchen sink. I do not even like a few drops of water in it after I have put everything away. Forget someone washing their hands with grease or oil on them. Hahahaha  ~
