Golden City was named the capitol of Colorado in 1862 but Denver captured the honor in 1876 when Colorado became a state.

There was a small amount of gold discovered in Clear Creek in the mid 1900’s and soon after, farmers discovered the rich soil in the valley which is now the Coors Complex

 

RECREATION AND AMENITIES

With 9 miles of bike trails and 29 miles of bike/pedestrian trails in the vast open spaces the area offers, Golden has become the final stop in the Ride the Rockies circuit this year and is a regular part of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.  Golden also offers the first mountain-bike-only trails in the Tony Grampsas Park giving more MANY REASONS TO RELOCATE TO GOLDEN, COLORADO.

 

   

There is the Clear Creek Whitewater Park which was dedicated in 1998 for recreational canoeing and kayaking with three sections for a total of 800 feet.  The bottom of the course is devoted to the more proficient paddler, while the middle and top of the course is less difficult.  The course has hosted various events including the School of Mines Spring Icebreaker along with numerous other events.  There is also Splash Water Park, located at Fossil Trace Golf Chub.  Fossil Trace offers golfers an award winning course with greenside and fairway bunkers that challenge even the most accomplished golfers.

 

                                 

 

EDUCATION

Education has been a huge part of Golden since the very early days also. Starting with Jarvis Hall, Matthew’s Hall and the Colorado School of Mines, only the School of Mines still exists.  It is very well respected specializing in engineering and applied sciences.
