The Carlsbad Triathlon 2014 will be held Sunday July 13 in Carlsbad California
The Carlsbad Triathlon has a reputation for being one of the longest-running triathlons in the world. This world class event, the 33rd annual this year, attracts amateur and elite athletes from around the world, and will be held Sunday July 13th in Carlsbad starting at Tamarack Surf Beach at 3900 Carlsbad Boulevard about a mile south of Carlsbad Village.
The Carlsbad Triathlon consists of a 1K swim, a 25K bike ride (a two-lap course with rolling hills along the ocean – I have ridden around in this area myself and it’s a beautiful and scenic ride), and a 5K run, so it is substantially shorter than some of the better known triathlons.
The 2014 Carlsbad Triathlon will be accompanied by a Lifestyle and Fitness Festival, being held on Saturday July 12th to kick off this world-class event, at Pine Avenue Park at 3333 Harding Street (new location) Carlsbad from 10 am until 3 pm.
As with all the Carlsbad running events there will be road closures, including portions of the coast road (Route 101/Carlsbad Boulevard) where the running takes place (from just south of Carlsbad Village Drive to La Costa Avenue in Leucadia), some of the same route as the famous Carlsbad Marathon.
