We wanted to do something different this year, avoiding the carnivals, large crowds and festivities. There is nothing wrong with those events, in fact they are very patriotic. We just were in the mood for something quiet. So, my husband and I made plans to go fishing this morning. We are not experienced fishers by any means, we have only been out a handful of times.
So we obtained or fishing licenses, rounded up the gear (dusted it off) and set the alarm to get up early. We checked the Oregon Fishing Guide to find out the limits, required bait and where to go. After a quick breakfast we headed out to Silver Creek Reservoir this morning. I have driven by many times showing property in Silverton, but never actually been to the Reservoir.
The lake is beautiful. There is a fishing pier, 2 boat docks and trails to vairious fishing spots. Swimming is allowed, as are non-motorized boats. Parking is only $2.
There were many kayakers coming and going while we spent the morning there. As they day warmed, swimmers and sun bathers appeared too.
A small flock of ducks came by to visit a few times, but what really caught our eye was the hawks, dive bombing into the water and catching fish. They would fly by once or twice with their prize, as if to rub it in.
In the end, we did not catch any fish, but had a wonderful, relaxing time. It was wonderful, and we will be back! Happy 4th of July to you! May you enjoy your families and your freedom that was fought so hard for, by so many.
