It's Time for a First

"When was the last time you did something for the first time?"

When we bought our first new construction home in 1999 it was a very exciting time. It was filled with "firsts". Who was the first one to walk in the front door, the first one to open the garage door, the first one to open the sliding door, the first one up the stairs, etc. etc.

When I read this quote (I found it on Pinterest, big surprise!), it made me think back to that time. We would laugh and try to find something else to do in the house that no one else had done before. It was a great feeling. I want to feel that again.

I'm pledging, to myself, that this month, July 2014, I am going to do AT LEAST one "thing" for the first time. Maybe I'll take a class, or try a new recipe. Maybe I'll be bold and try the rock climbing wall at the recreation center. Maybe we'll go on a trip to some place we've never been before. Maybe we'll rent a convertible for the weekend, I've never driven one before!

Of course, I'll be back to blog about my "first". That's part of the fun, sharing it with others!

Hello Roy! That's great. I don't think I've had any firsts yet this month. I have had some "haven't done that in a long time" moments!

Good morning Donna. Firsts are fun and generally a challenge too. Hummmmm, what to do, what to do?

Donna, great idea!  We tend to get stuck in a rut and it's good to get out and try something new from time to time!  It keeps us young and our minds sharp!  Enjoy your Sunday!

Donna - That is such a great idea.  I remember when my brother and I were young, and we went on road trips.  It would always be about who was the first one to cross the state line, and then when we got home, the first to touch the cat and the first to touch the dog.

Hi Donna... this is a good one and thanks to Kathy I got to come over and enjoy it... Made me think about when was the last time I did something new... I'll have to give it more thought... thinking you might want to make it a contest... I would be a good one for sure...

Hi Donna, glad I read Kathy's post this morning and got your inspiration.  Thinking about learning the guitar and I am definitely going to ponder all the things I have not done and might do!

The most important home I sell is YOURS!

Great post.  I have been trying to do this for the last year.  Took a helicopter ride over Atlantic City, even though I am terrified of heights (and still am).  What a wonderful view I had of the city (with fists clenched on the bar in front of me)! So glad I did it.  On to the first hot air balloon ride.

Kathy~ Thanks so much for the feature in your weekly blog. I still haven't found my first for this month, but the it's only the 13th!

Sheila~ I'm still looking for a "first" for this month too. I've been thinking about trying out a new recipe for pineapple upside down cake when my sister is visiting.

Silvia~ Trying a new restaurant is probably the easiest new thing to try. Or maybe a new marketing idea. Hmmm, I did try a new marketing idea. I could share about that!

Debbie G.~ That sounds like fun. I might try that on our next road trip. We don't take very many of those, but I'm hoping we'll be taking one to New Mexico in the next month or 2.

Debbie R.~ You need to share some of those firsts with us!

Richard & Beth~ Kathy thought it would be a good contest too. Since she just featured it in her weekly blog, I think I'll wait awhile if I decide to have a contest.

Joanna~ That would be fun! I've never been good with instruments. Just don't have the patience. I have been thinking about taking a painting class. One of those canvas and wine type things.

Jeanne~ I'm afraid of heights and I've been seriously thinking about the same 2 things! Would love to the helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.

Cindy~ I'm preoccupied because business is good AND we have family coming in town this weekend. Maybe we'll do something new during their visit.

A sense of adventure is a good trait to have--that's why I enjoy my travels so much--new places, new people so lots of firsts.

Norma~ Wish I could find the time to travel more. At this point, just trying some new things (locally) will be adventure enough for me. Maybe I'll go to the golf course and knock around some balls on the driving range. Do you play? We back to the golf course and it seems a sin that I don't play.
