Can You Survive in the New Real Estate Paradigm? Good Question!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Don Sabinske, Sabinske & Associates Inc. 539MN

The latest economic news has us all considering how we will survive in this new market. It is a far cry from the early 2000s when all you needed was a mirror to make sure the buyer was still breathing and could sign closing documents.  There is a ton of advice here on the Rain to make sure you succeed.  Are you using these resources?

Or are you just "checking in" each day.  If you work in a big box,  they love you (at first), they will give you all the training you can pay for.  But, they won't give you leads or any confirmation that they want you to succeed other than that very expensive "training."

Sometime around the second or third month, you will become accountable no matter how much money you have.  Dead weight is dead weight and brings the average down.  The broker/manager will start to bring you in at least once a week.  Do you have a plan to bring in the buyers?    The sellers don't really matter right now because, at best, they may sell...or never sell.

If you are just starting out in real estate, make sure that your sphere is long and deep and includes plenty of people with money or good credit scores that want to BUY NOW.

That scenario sounds very familiar.  I am glad that I had a new plan in place so I could survive....thus far!

The economic conditions I'm seeing in my market really haven't done much to slow me down.  I must be doing something right.

We are all local realtors, and oftentimes, some people lose sight of what it takes to be successful thinking that a "big box" can overcome their inadequacies of doing what it takes to be a great broker or realtor!

So far what I'm doing is working and I'm always trying to think of new ways to get more business. I hope this continues to work for me.

Ah ha...two posts today. I'm right behind you on that. LOL.

Again, all I am saying is that I am still glad not to be a realtor.  I may not make as much money, but I don't stay up nights worrying about deals, either!

Don, the best thing I did was start my own little brokerage. We aren't big box and I don't plan to be but, our clients are loyal and 95% of my business is referral. Who you work for when you get into RE can really make a difference in terms of whether or not you make it.

Amanda, that is what I did.  Exactly.  Clients really appreciate individual attention, and they are loyal with referrals and their own repeat business, too!

Good to keep your staff accountable Don, dead wood in not good for anyone.

We try to get only seasoned agents who are motivated here.  If you aren't ready to work, go to somewhere to get training!  Or find a job.
