Elk River's New Park - Bailey Point!
The City of Elk River’s newest Park, Bailey Point is a 23-acre nature preserve at the confluence of the Elk and Mississippi Rivers.
The property, commonly known as Bailey Point, was purchased from John and Nancy Babcock with the use of a Natural and Scenic Area Grant from the Department of Natural Resources and a conservation easement through Minnesota Land Trust easement.
The property begins a return to the “river city roots” of the Elk River community as it is basically a peninsula surrounded by the Elk and Mississippi Rivers. The property may possibly contain remnants of local American Indian populations that originally inhabited the area.
The city has no plans for the property and plans to keep it secure until the spring season, when a complete inventory can be completed and improvements can be made to ensure the safety and enjoyment of visitors.
The park does have some great features: it is adjacent to the water and has great birdwatching, there is a dog water station so taking your dog for a walk isn’t a problem, and there is fishing!
Thank you, Elk River, for being caretakers of Bailey Point so that we can all enjoy the area!
If you are looking for it on your phone or computer, it is located at One Morton Avenue.
Visit soon and visit often!
