Tucked under a little arch in an alley along Clear Creek in historic downtown Golden Colorado, you'll find a lovely wormhole into the tastes of ages gone by; the Golden Moon Speakeasy. No password required, just a respect and appreciation of hand crafted spirits, unique to Colorado, but deeply rooted in history. The spirits are created by Stephen Gould and mixed to perfection by mixologist Noah Heaney. These guys are purists. Bourne from a love of age old flavors and processes, they operate four antique stills to produce some of the finest spirits in the west. Using small batch, artisan processes from the 1800s, they produce eight classic liquors and liqueurs at the Golden Moon Distillery, then serve them up with pride at the Golden Moon Speakeasy. Bottles are also available for purchase, ensuring a tasteful party at home.

Within walking distance to great homes in the South Table Mountain neighborhood and Colorado School of Mines, this is craft distilling at its finest. With 2013 Best In Class awards at both the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Wine and Spirits Competition, they're really making a name for themselves. Their hand crafted spirits include their versions of Absinthe Verte, Grappa, Gin, Amer dit Picon, Creme de Violette, Dry Curacao, Apple Jack and Bourbon Whiskey. Each is expertly crafted with herbs, spices and botanicals for a taste unlike anything you've likely tried.
One of the highlights is the Redux Absinthe Verte, replete with its own storied history throughout time. Known as the Green Fairy, absinthe was originally produced in France and Switzerland during the 1800s, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all manner of artists, poets and aristocrats for generations. But slowly the tide of public opinion began to change as tales of the drink's hallucinogenic effects leading to delirium took hold, and absinthe was categorically banned right before WWI. Production of absinthe in France wasn't leagalized again until 2011! But it's legal here. And luckily we don't have to travel that far to enjoy this mysterious, powerful spirit infused with green anise, fennel oil, wormwood and bitter herbs. Come down to Golden Moon Speakeasy and treat yourself to a classic cocktail made from history, with love.
