First Time Home Buyer Jitters!
Looking to buy your first home, and how do we get here? After scanning through endless listings on the internet or smart phones, day dreaming about your own home, you finally contact a lender or even a realtor to learn if you qualify and about the process. Congratulations you are approved!
You select a list of homes to see with your realtor, and you like a couple of homes, and are ready to take the plunge to make an offer. Here they come;; all the emotions that can run through your mind. Your feelings are in overdrive from a mixture of excitement, joy, and anticipation, anxiety, and worry. First time home buyers also face new lingo, EMD, ratification, contingencies… oh boy!
Buying your first home should be a joyful experience and with an experienced realtor, and right steps, it should help alleviate the stress and make it a smooth process. Now let's rewind for a moment.
The advice here is to do some research on different realtor’s websites, or if you know someone that can refer a good realtor. Check out their testimonials. This will give you some insight to what kind of person they are and that you may share common interests. After finding a few, give them a call and see who follows up with you. Communication is crucial and if a prospective realtor does not return your phone calls or emails, you know they won’t be doing their best in helping you through the process.
Interview different lenders as they are a great resource not just to help you to obtain a loan, but offer good advice on your financial steps to get approved for your home mortgage. Lenders help you plan a road map to your home ownership.
Take your time to make a decision, but also consider your realtors advice in cases of multiple offers. Let your realtor know what it is you like or don’t like about a house. Share with them if you feel overwhelmed, as they have the experience to set realistic expectations and guide you through this process.
Make a list of the features that are important to you and then prioritize them. You might feel like you have to compromise on a home because it is above the budget you want to spend. Don’t’ despair, take ideas away from that home, colors, design, let it inspire you and put it in your purchase home.
Now that you have a realtor and a loan officer by your side, you are well off to become a Home Buyer. It is all about team work. Good communication and realistic expectations are key!
Searching and buying a home can be the most rewarding and exciting time for anyone!
I love the excitement of working with home buyers and the joy that comes from helping them find their first home!
Happy House Hunting!
