Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium is one of the most popular attractions for visitors from out of state and locals in Atlanta.
Here are some secret tips from a local:
1. Go Early - Right now, you can get a discount by ordering online and selecting the first hour of the day. The bonus for this is avoiding the big crowds especially if you have little ones that can't see over the heads of the groups in front of you.
2. It's a Happy Birthday! If you are a resident of Georgia and you have an id to prove it's your birthday, you get in FREE!
3. Captive Audience Food Prices - Consider bringing a cooler of food and leaving it in the car for when you depart the Aquarium. There is a very large grassy area for having a family picnic just outside the Aquarium.
3. Dolphin Tales - Even though your ticket into the Georgia Aquarium includes the ticket for the AT&T Dolphin Tales, you still need to secure your time slot with getting a pass after you enter. The Dolphin Tales is a must-do for all age groups. It is a very big theater and there are no bad seats. You will enjoy this show.
4. The big Tank! - When you go for your Dolphin Tales pass, ask what time the feeding is for the big Tank. The feeding at the big Tank is usually around 3:00 pm, but it can vary. The "Whale Sharks" are about 30 ft long, and they are fed by hand held scoops at the end of a stick from inflatable boats at the top of the water. These Whale Sharks are actually not whales or sharks, but the largest fish in the world. Their throats are the size of your fist. The smaller fish enjoy following behind the Whale Sharks as they are being fed to grab some of the left-overs.
5. Specials - The Georgia Aquarium offers visitors the opportunity to swim or do scuba dives in the big tank. If you have the time, you can also plan a group overnight stay at the Aquarium (This is with an additional fee & you must be certified to do the scuba dives.)
6. "Bundle" Package of Attractions - You may not realize there are several attractions located within a very short walking distance to the Georgia Aquarium; the World of Coca-Cola is just across the grassy area, the brand new Civil Rights Museum is located next to the Aquarium. If you walk across the street, you will be in the Centennial Olympic Park with the famous Olympic water fountains. Walk across the next street, and you will be in the CNN building with tours of the studios available. Park at the Aquarium, and take advantage of these other attractions.
7. One last secret about the Georgia Aquarium, you may not notice it at first, but the design of the building is in the shape of a boat!
