I'm still working on my story

It's just amazing that we all go through life and we develop a story.  Some of us try to alter our story by doing things we shouldn't be doing.  The reality is that our story is already scripted.  Our role is to play the part we've been assigned.

Can you imagine a husband and wife who had plans to be super successful because they were young and extremely talented?  It seems like the dream of many young couples.  But what happens when life changes?  And boy does it change.

My wife and I had wonderful dreams of being this awesome young couple who would begin to develop our family dynasty.  We had it all.  We were educated well.  We were healthy.  We had great attitudes.  We believed in God.  All the stuff that a young aspiring couple could dream of having to propel them into success was at our grasp.

Life couldn't have been any better during the first two years of our marriage.  We had a son and we were well on our way to the success we had believed we were meant to have.  But then there was a massive turn of events.  We couldn't have ever imagined what would happen in our lives.  My wife's kidney's failed.  We were massively shocked.  But good news came in just about three month.  Her kidney's miraculously started functioning again.  Boy were we happy.

For eleven month after my wife's kidney's started functioning again, she caught a cold that never seemed to go away.  Long story short we discovered her kidney's had failed again.  That was in January of 1990.  With great expectations because we had seen a miracle before, we anticipated her kidney's would miraculously come back again.  That hasn't happened yet and it's 2008 but we're still believing God.

During the stress and strain of dealing with my wife's kidney failure and raising a son all of our dreams seemed like they wouldn't come true.  This once young and invincible couple is now a couple fighting for the best God has to offer.  Everyday we still anticipate.  Over the years we never stopped dreaming.  Over the years we have seen God come through in other areas of our lives like we haven't seen in the lives of our closest friends.  People always tell us how blessed we are.

It's good to know that even though life throws different situations in your path, it's just part of the story of our lives. Working on the story of our lives isn't easy.  My wife and I have thought on occasion  that because our lives were altered so much we couldn't have many of the things we desired.  God has been more than good to us and we thank Him everyday for the many blessings He has allowed us to participate in.

What we have come to discover is that our lives are meant to be an encouragement to those who think things will never change.  What we have found out is things around us have changed when we changed.  I'm talking about an attitude adjustment.  We constantly check our attitudes.  Today my wife is in a wheel chair with a great attitude.  She has had two strokes but she has a great attitude.  She's had her kidney's fail twice but she has a great attitude.  She can no longer speak but she has a great attitude.  She can no longer drive a car but she has a great attitude.  She can't even go to the restroom by herself but she has a great attitude.  She is the joy of my life and the inspiration that keeps me focused on "NOW" because yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Yeah, our story is still in progress.  It might not sound like a nice story but we know it's not done and although we've lived a blessed life in spite of the circumstances,  the best is yet to come.

Stay blessed,
