Credit tip number 4 is to create a budget and live within its limits. Credit should not be a source to live beyond your means. It is so easy to create a simple budget and it allows you to have more control because you track and see exactly where your money is going.

Certainly for anyone older with a fixed income. When you have a family, there are always emergencies; however, paying off credit cards and loans should be a priority going forward.

Great advice to live by and it would indeed make sense - too bad more people don't live that way.

Whitney,

Your post is oh so correct about a budget. Most folks just use Plastic money and never think about the consequences. Barbara Jo above is correct..

Hella-You are right, there are emergency situations that arise. The budgeting part can help to equip families with an emergency fund for those emergency situations!

Barbara-Jo & Corinna-Credit make it way too easy to try and keep up with the Joneses!

Bob-I feel much more in control of my finances when I budget!

Shannon-That kind of thinking gets people in big trouble! I see it all the time!

Thanks for your series of tips. Most families fail to establish a budget.

This is a great tip and an important step for people working toward meeting their credit goals. It doesn't matter how much money someone earns; if they live beyond their means they will always be behind.

Christopher-You make a great point, you will always be behind if you live beyond your means.

Pamela-I'm very familiar with working for commission and know that it can be very hard to set a budget until there is a steady flow of income!
