ActiveRain Memorial Luncheon For Lee Rome-Friends, Food, Fortunate!
Today we held a special ActiveRain Meetup in memory of Lee Rome, and in support of Margaret Rome.
When Lee passed away 2 months ago, there was an outpouring of love for Margaret. There were folks that wanted to support her but were unable to attend the service. There were folks that found out much too late to attend. Several spoke to me about getting together the local ActiveRain friends support. At the time, though incredibly touched, Margaret was not ready.
About a week ago, we talked about it again and Margaret said, "I think I am ready". I put out the call, and 11 beautiful souls showed up to celebrate Lee, mourn with and support Margaret in her time of need and many more were with us in spirit. There were 11 of us at the table in addition to Margaret, and one collective group who were sending love from near and far. The way I see it, that makes 13. In Judaism, 13 is considered "spiritually significant", a perfect number of guests to celebrate the love that Margaret and Lee shared.
There truly was such a lovely feel about the luncheon at Kelsey's today. Our waitress could not have been more attentive, the food could not have been better, and the sharing of spirit truly made me feel fortunate to be part of this forum.
There were hugs. There were tears. There was laughter. Most of all there was a connection that is so special among those who were able to make it, and shared by those that weren't. As always, Margaret shared herself with everyone. She told several stories about Lee that had us all laughing. She shared her pain, she comforted one who is going through her own pain.
My daughter Sydney has been working on a song and got up the courage to sing it for Margaret, Ann, Alan and me, after everyone else left. The song was truly a perfect reflection of the connection that Lee and Margaret shared and will continue to share...
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
As long as Margaret has a voice to share and a heart that beats, Lee will not be gone, her heart will go on and on. In my heart I know that Lee is smiling down on Margaret and all whom she loves.
Hopefully Sydney will not mind me sharing a sample version we were fooling around with this weekend.
