Friday Fun: Staghorn Fern at LotusLand or Bobcat Nest?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

This magnificent staghorn fern specimen is a photo taken at the fern garden in Lotusland in Santa Barbara.  Our docent told us that one of the gardeners was about to clean the center, when a bobcat jumped out.  These ferns make great nests for birds and bobcats in this instance.  Birds, beware, this may be bobcat territory!  Happy Friday!

Imagine the surprise of having a bobcat leap out of a fern? Geez, that would increase the heart rate a bit. Do you suppose the kitty was hoping to see a little birdie fly into that staghorn fern nest? I do.

Wow! What a great picture. That looks like something from the Amazon jungle. I'm definitely putting Lotusland on our must-see list.

Wow Ron & Alexandra, I did not know Bobcats lived in nests. Sort of scary. Great photo as always.

Hi Alexandra and Ron, another amazing picture. I've seen bobcats couple of times, they're not friendly creatures at all(at least the ones I encountered with). Had no idea they would call nests their home.

Thanks everyone for your comments.  Usually birds create their nest in staghorn ferns.  In this instance the bobcat who climb trees must have decide that this was a good place to sleep, and like cats do, curled himself in.

They are beautiful creatures to look at and a bit taller than a regular cat.  I saw one from the bed one morning and thought that it was an exotic cat, and opened the sliding glass door to get a look at him.  When he took off, I checked it out on the internet, and it was a bobcat...Yikes!  I am sure the gardener at Lotus land must have freaked.  A

Hi Alexandra and Ron -- I never would  imagine that a bobcat would make its home(however temporary) at Lotusland....Yikes!

Wonderful fern, Alexandra.  Ip can't believe a bobcat would live there. He was probably looking for a bird snack.
