Are you planning to sell your house this year? Is your house ready for an open house? Most of the people would say yes without considering the condition of their landscaping. Landscaping is an important part of the exterior of your house and it can even turnoff a potential buyer. Houses with bad landscaping require more days to attract an appreciable offer. Moreover, bad landscaping can even take the joy of living in the house away from you.

Avoid mistakes in landscaping

5 Landscaping Mistakes You Need to Avoid

·         No plan/design for planting: Do you want to plant a series of show trees? Most of the homeowners do not picture their front yard five years from today. There could be nothing worse than planting without a plan and you might want to hire a landscape architect for your garden. It will ensure that you garden will look better in the years to come.

·         Choosing similar plants for landscaping: You may want to create a signature style but it doesn’t work well for your buyers. Most of the plants bloom in a particular season and they are dry for the rest of the year. Just imagine how it would appear except for the blossoming season. Focus on different types of plants and choose a combination that gives a live look to your garden throughout the four seasons.

·         Uncontrolled weeds: Weeds do not just look messy, they even eat away the water and other nutrient supplied to your vegetation. Weeds can grow in mortar cracks; hence shortening the life of your vegetation. You can use a pre-emergent to control the growth of seeds and if you already have seeds, make sure to plough them out before the blossoming season. A typical weed plant can spread hundreds of thousands of seed during one flowering season.

·         Overcrowded landscaping: The idea of having groups of plants is good and it gives a good look. However, these plants can be difficult to manage after maturing and you might find them outgrowing each other. Use internet and find out the right space between different plants as plant beds often become crowded after three years of plantation.

·         Choosing plants with more maintenance requisite: It is great that you enjoy gardening and you have ample time every week for the yard. However, your buyer might find it difficult to manage plants that require special care such as winter covers and regular water. It is best to choose plants that are easy to manage and offer a lively look to your landscape.

Yvette, this is a great list of landscaping mistakes to avoid!  Any tips for plantings that the deer or moose may browse on for some of the houses on the edge of town?
