One of the benefits of living in Greenstone Country in Placerville, is the animals that roam throughout the neighborhood on a regular basis. These animals include the deer who migrate daily across our property. The down side of this is that the deer eat plants at an alarming rate when you are away. Trying to grow something to last is an ongoing battle.

This tomato plant was full and healthy yesterday!

Well, look at it this way - you provided dinner for a very hungry animal!

Sharon & Bruce - I'll say, I don't know if the plant can survive without leaves for long.

That is a positive way of looking at it Dorie, but the deer don't appear to be starving here!  :)

Hi Tom - That's the downside of living close to nature. But it isn't our abundant local deer or the rabbit infestation we're suffering that nail our tomatoes - it's Lulu, our Lab, who thinks tomatoes are better than bacon.

Tom, Those deer will eat anything!  Great post, and for me, it would be a great problem to have!  I love watching deer!  Have a great day, and sorry about the tomato plant!

Tom- when we lived in Leesburg, VA, I gave up on my caladiums.. the deer would east them as soon as I planted them.
