July is National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month, tomorrow July 20, is the 30th Anniversary of National Ice Cream Day.  President Ronald Regan signed the proclamation naming these dates on July 9, 1984.  

Ice Cream BabySome interesting trivia about ice cream:

  • The first ice cream cone was invented in NYC in 1896 by Italo Marchiony.
  • It takes 50 licks to consume a single-scoop ice cream cone.
  • In 1998, a 24 ton ice cream sundae was made in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
  • A cow can produce enough milk to make 9,000 gallons of ice cream during her lifetime.
  • The United States celebrated the victory and end of World II with ice cream.
  • The most popular flavor of ice cream is vanilla, and then comes chocolate and strawberry.
  • Did you know there is an ice cream diet --  but can it be good for you?

Who doesn't dream of owning an ice cream store? Oh yea, I got to! Had one for 5 years. Having access to ice cream everyday is not good for you. LOL

Did not know any of these facts and certainly did not now there was a national ice cream day.  Thanks for sharing a bit of American trivia.  I will be celebrating with some vanilla ice cream.

Bet, That is very interesting information. My mother in law loved ice cream and it was the only thing she was not generous with. She wanted to save it all for herself. lol

Debbie, It's interesting, my Mother use to buy ice cream and hide it in the garage freezer, go stand out there and eat it right out of the container.  My Dad was a diabetic and she didn't want to eat it in front of him.  I on the other hand, never cared that much for it, but love chips!

I went to my favorite little resort today to have my favorite ice cream and it was not the same....they must have changed something.  Sad, but also a good thing.  Now there is no need to drive 2 hrs. in hopes of getting it.

Hi Bette, It's hard to say what my favorite flavor is.  I think it changes frequently. Right now Lemon comes to mind. My last favorite wa orange sherbet. They remind me of push ups.
