I Don't Want to Whine, But I Am

By
Real Estate Agent with Crown Key Realty

This is simple, it's my birthday today and my DL says I am 63. Thats' great an  I'm still on the grass rather than under it. So not complaining to much. But, why do so many things have to stop working, work incorrectly or  hurt.

Some of its my fault, yes for sure. Leg filled with titanium rods and screws from a biking accident and always hurts. Hearing awful from years in the music industry. I will rephrase, the really really loud music industry. Should have been smarter but I was young, naive (stupid would be another word) and seemingly indestructible. WRONG.

Arthritis beginning in hands killing my dream of being a great guitarist. Thank goodness I didn't spend any money on a guitar or lessons. Eye site really becoming questionable and cataract surgery coming up in September.

But I am still here.

My age and time has given me a greater compassion for others. A greater tolerance of all things and an understanding that a polite word, and a smile will get you a lot farther than a growl. I certainly appreciate many things now that only got a passing glance in my youth. I have realized that giving is far more rewarding than receiving. I have taken the mantra the the meaning of life is a life with meaning.

I like who I am a lot more now than I ever did. As I have gotten older I am a far better father, a better friend, a better boss and a better employee.

Last thought. Someone told me not long ago that in every person my age is a young person saying "what the heck just happened here?" What happened was all good.

My name is Dale E. Bledsoe with Crown Key Realty and as always I may be reached at 209-481-6031.

Happy Birthday Dale!  I am a tad younger and my mantra has always been "You don't stop playing when you get old, you get old when you stop playing".  See you on the slopes when we get some snow!

Happy Birthday Young man ! Love the comments by many and how we can relate. I like myself much better too these days; if I knew then what I know now...... as the saying goes!

With all the aches and pains from injuries and aging, it is hard to rememeber that saying "Age is only a Number"!

To Your Continued Success!......and Health!

Home is where the hearth is.

Very familiar with this syndrome.  I have caught myself saying "Oy", when getting out of the car seat... sounding like my father.

I also don't recognize the old man in the mirror... who the heck is he.

I feel ya, man.  I feel ya.

Happy birthday!  Your reflections on getting older were a great read this morning.  The body may be full of aches and pains, but the soul seems to become more satisfied the older we get.

Hey, Dale... happy birthday! I've got some years on you, but in my head I'm only 30 (on bad days 35)! Age is really only a number if you treat it that way. But I do get the eye sight, arthritis issues... been there myself (but those already showed up in my 50's).

Enjoy the wisdom those passing years bestowed upon you.  It's the journey (and perhaps the necessary adjustments) that propels us forward.  Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday, as they say you are only as old as you feel, that varies day by day sometimes. But wise is good.

Well said, Dale. At a certain point we have to ask ourselves, would we want to give away all those years of what we had and I'm sure the answer would be 'no'.

Happy Birthday Dale!!  Yup 63 isn't so bad I got there a couple months ago.  The good thing is your memory starts going and you can't remember what parts aren't working like they used to work because you can't remember how they worked :-)

Happy birthday +  a few days.

Don't count the years, just enjoy the years.

I'm right along with you, and I've gotten better, smarter & kinder.  But I gotta tell you, I need another decade or two to work on patience, because that's one I've not mastered and hardly have been able to chip.

Enjoy the years..

Happy belated birthday Dale! :)  My mom turned 73 the day after your special day, and she would say you're just a pup!  Most people think my mom is about 60.  Here's to many more birthdays!!

I would like to thank each of you that responded to my recent blog about aging. Sometimes I forget that I'm not the only one suffering from this common complaint. Many of you agreed that often times wisdom is a byproduct of age, and that the last thing to happened is an incresed tolerance of people and situations. Suggestions were also made about consuming a little wine (recently heard a good joke about wine and duct tape) and the possible benefits of fish oil. I wahappy that some of you are older than I because it reinforces that life changes, but it still goes on and with the right mind set gets better with age. Thank all fo you for the encouragement, the humor and most of all the understanding. I am humbled once again by the great members of Active Rain.

I get annoyed with our society placing so much value in youth. Personally, I love the character on the face of one who leads an\ interested and interesting life. Here's to the fine patina that years give us. ( Happy belated Birthday)

Being 63 myself the one thing I have learned is that getting old is not for the weak. Now I am smiling about it but guess what. Dealing with lots of aches and pain is no fun. Makes Happy Hour better.
