Last Saturday night my son and I went to our first Boise Hawks baseball game.  Those of you not familiar they are the class “A” short season Affiliate team for the Chicago Cubs.  There is not a bad seat in the house and we sat on third base side in box seat.  Third base side also happens to be the shady side. The seats where fantastic and my son was captivated throughout the game.  Not just with the baseball game, but between every inning we had potatoes races, games, hot dogs shot into the stands and basic family fun stuff.  He is still talking about the hot dogs being shot up to the upper seats.  That might be a good birthday party game, how many hot dogs he and his friends can catch in their mouths.

It was $1 hot dog and popcorn night as well.  We even had wait service in our seats, so we didn’t miss any action.  Although with an 8 year old, getting up and moving around is part of the game.  Which we did in the final two innings.  Luck would have it, there was a foul ball hit to our section and we scrambled and came up with air.  But to our luck, an older gentleman with Dodger hat on had the ball roll to his seat, he gave it to my son.   Good thing we didn’t wear our Giants gear.

This was more fun than the movies and cost about the same.  Tickets where $12 a peace, 3 hot dogs $3, popcorn $1, Ice Cream in souvenir helmet $4.50 had to buy hats at $25 a peace as well,.  This actually could have been cheaper than movies, without the hats, I know the popcorn was much less.  They have some great promotions coming up, like on July 19, its $1 tickets and hot dogs, Girls Night Out and more Fireworks Nights are coming up as well.  Check out their website, http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t480, for details about promotions.  FYI- IPA’s where $6.25, which looked like a 16oz pour.  Due to diet, I am out on beer for 3 weeks.

The second half of the season just started, so go out and have a great time at Boise Hawks Baseball.  It’s off the Greenbelt and easy bike ride.  You never who will turn into a Hall of Famer, my father saw Mickey Mantle at a minor league game.  BTW- they won 12-9 that night and have great uniforms with Hawks scratch marks onside of pants dripping blood…Go Hawks.
