Update Your Business Card Photo Often

Success in Real Estate is closely connected to personal service and trust, and your image is integral to your branding. The following tips may help you obtain an updated photo.

Update your Business Card PhotoKeep It Current: Was your last photo taken many years ago and  have you have drastically changed since? Maybe it is time for a new photo? Someone might have your card and you walk in but they are looking for a person 15-20 years younger. I have had that happen with other people and it is pretty embarassing! (not my card)

Go Professional: Trained photographers capture you at your most flattering angles, using lighting to your advantage. The professionals photoshop the flaws and enhance the color and image is typically better.

Background: Choose a background that contrasts your outfit. Wear something business professional but maybe a bright colored jacket so clients will remember your name.

Go Digital: You'll need digital files, not prints, for uploading to your website, print shop, etc.

In a Pinch: Experiment with someone's digital camera and get some photos taken of you to update your photo for websites until you can get a professional photo done. The beauty of digital is that the person at the end of the camera can take 20-30 photos until you find the one you really like and delete the others.

Hi Leslie,

You are so right. I recently met someone who has her card and site all over the place but when I met her I didn't recognize her. Photo was 20+ years old.

We had an agent that used a picture that screamed 1985 but it was more like 2007 when it was in use. Between the plaid dress and hairstyle it was everything not to do! Having said that, she was very good in real estate and got a lot of business.

I've often thought for a good joke, I might use a picture of my grandpa when he was 81 and put that on my card. We have similar bone structures in our faces and it would make a good conversation starter.

Hi David,

Exactly! I get recognized in stores and at events so I want people to know who I am.

My old brokerage was really strict and even said no dogs or cats in the picture. Other brokerages were allowing dogs and I wanted one. Now when I think back, they were probably right. I always put picture of my pets on the websites as many clients are  pet lovers.

Hi Noah,

Glad to hear that and I am sure you will be happy to be passing them out. I am getting some business cards made right now at the printers with a new photo. I am going to a big seminar back east and do not want to run out.

Just had a conversation about this - I suggested that a photo is very important to include on our business card. The other agent said her market was the star - not her...so she used a photo of the market. Your thoughts?

Hi Debb,

No I do not agree. I think many of us work for big companies because of name recognition and good service but we are the stars and our face should be on our flyers, business cards, web sites etc. Many times people use generic cards due to the reduced cost.

Hi Kristin~ I've had several people tell me in the last several months that I need a new photo...at least for ActiveRain and my other social media sites. Maybe I should consider having a new one taken. I really don't look the same, but it looks enough like me to get by.

Donna,

I tend to change mine about every 6 months to a year. I usually get a good one from my cell phone but a few months ago our broker had a photographer come in so I indulged.  This one in AR is one we took with my camera but it looks relaxed and I like that. Change your photo and Kerrie will give you some points...maybe.
