Businessweek Magazine Suggests

Zillow Wants to Buy Trulia

 Logo property of BusnissWeek.

In an article on 7/24/14, reported by Alex Sherman, Jeffrey McCracken and Prashant Gopal, entitled Zillow Seeking to Buy Rival Property Site Trulia, BusinessWeek magazine suggests that Zillow wants to buy Trulia.

The article states "Zillow, the largest U.S. real estate website, is seeking to buy No. 2 Trulia for as much as $2 billion in cash and stock, according to people with knowledge of the matter. An agreement may be announced as soon as next week, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. Talks are ongoing and may not lead to a deal."

Another source is RISMedia eNews, reporting a similar scenario.

The combination would create yet another change for ActiveRain members. One can only hope that the higher-ups at Zillow, some of whom started out at ActiveRain, will leave the current AR staff in charge of day-to-day AR activities.

ActiveRain gains strength daily and will continue to be a strong asset for whomever is the owner of ActiveRain. What is that saying? "Too many cooks spoil the broth." Or is it "Leave well enough alone." Or perhaps "Don't spoil a good thing."

Anyway - you get the picture ...
Have a happy day,

Interesting that Zillow is larger than Trulia. Seems in terms of the inclusion of both of them in my traffic funnel that Trulia refers more traffic to my websites. Still, if this happens lets hope that the impact on AR is minimal. Great post Lynn and Congrats on the Feature!

Who of the Zillow "higher ups" started at ActiveRain?

Jerome Farrar

No one at Zillow started AR.

I think she's referring to Brad Andersohn.  Is he still at Zillow?  Still here at AR?  Just wondering what this will do to AR.

Lynn- there is always a concern with a merger.  Let's hope they don't change the current Active Rain deal we have.

I would consider Brad a huge asset to Zillow but not one of the higher-ups.

You just thought that Trulia shook up AR when they bought it.   Wait until Zillow is in charge!

Dear Readers -
Thanks for stopping by!

When one reads comments in sequence - it is often similar to an old-fashioned game of "Telephone" in many ways.

For example, in the post, the statement is " higher-ups at Zillow, some of whom started out at ActiveRain".

Jo Soss (#8) --  asks a question, "Who of the Zillow "higher ups" started at ActiveRain?" One answer is Brad Andersohn. To me, Brad is a "higher-up" anywhere he is because all smart people would rely on his opinions. (My post - I give myself permission to use links in my comment - LOL.)

Then in the next comment, Anonymous (#9) is the content changer in the game of "Telephone". He transists from "started out at ActiveRain" to "started AR."

The post never said "started AR" ---

So proud to be featured. My hope is that Trulia and/or Zillow just leave AR alone unless asked by Staff to assist. Active AR members know that AR works and has benefitted them.

Have a happy day -

I sure hope Z stays out of Active Rain/Trulia.  I'd be done with AR . . . absolutely.  Can't stand how that vulture capital took over the MLS and manipulated the MLS' for our work product.

What can we do for you today?

Good day this has been a very interesting topic to say the least... until we all gather together and decide to make change this will continue to happen. Do we have a choice to toggle off the Big Z and the Big T and the Big R or do we have to allow this group to use our data?

What does NAR  have to say about this and will they say anything at all? We pay dues to be a part of NAR  TAR  and our local association GTAR.  Who gave the feed to the groups discussed here? Who allowed them to have the feed to our listings and why did they do it?

The answer is still unknown !

I guess, Lynn, we remain who we are. (ActiveRain is at a place where no one can dare to 'touch' them.)

Let me take that back --- it's now '' and it may become ''. However, we still remain who we are.

One of the things about corporate control is creating better profit centers. If there is a merger pretty sure the rules will change.

Thanks for sharing this Lynn, I had heard rumors but this the first official word that things may be happening.

Hopefully AR will remain about the same, though I am sure some interesting debates will ensue over the next few months if Z swallows T.

I got a message from Trulia today (as a Trulia client, for advertising), that nothing changes.  I guess they'll be using the General Motors model, where a Chevy is a Chevy and a Pontiac is a Pontiac, right?
