ZILLOW WANTS TRULIA WHO WANTS ACTIVERAIN WHO WANTS YOU AND ME

By

Remember those Chinese boxes where one box is put into another and then another and as you open each one, a smaller one is in there until you reach the teeny tiny one and in that is some sort of gift or message? That's what comes to mind here after reading about how Zillow is interested in acquiring Trulia who of course dined on ActiveRain as sort of an appetizer who hosted little ole you and me

ADD IT ALL UP...$$$

Amazing because these businesses only have standing by hosting your Real Estate beliefs, input, listings, opinions, instructions, education and Real Estate life in the trenches data and stories. Amazing how if you take every individuals experiences and package them, they now have a collective value

PEOPLE POWER=$$$

We are talking of tens of millions of dollars here. Something like 84 million people visited with these two giants in the Real Estate industry making then a "go to" for consumers who are interested in the subject of general Real Estate. That means that they have a standing in the business.

IF YOU DID THIS...CONGRATS

Too bad that over the years of blogging, posting and commenting that the average supporter and user of these sights (you & me) didn't have the fore-sight to purchase some stock in the operations. I mean who would know better than daily user how addicting, wanting, useful and helpful these sights really are?

MY POST PLUS YOUR POST=$$$

Some people did however and I hope they are reaping the rewards of that decision. Imagine for a moment that this POST I am writing when added to hundreds of thousands of other posts somehow turns into tens of millions of dollars for people who supervise the handling of all this?

WHAT DO PEOPLE REALLY WANT?

What do we know for sure? The average lay person, the potential buyer and seller client out there wants to know about this subject matter. That simply means that if you trace it all down, when the dust settles, when the cycle goes full turn, it all ends up in the lap of the Real Estate professional person.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

They want to talk to their stag-er, lender, agent, inspector, escrow officer, title rep and all the rest of the players while they are considering spending or receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars. So I ask you my fellow professionals. This question: How many professionals does it take to make...Real Estate?

ONLY ONE

The little old neighborhood professional who knows his backyard and can personally walk you through the "land" of Real Estate up close, personal, hands on guaranteed. Of course Trulia, Zillow, Redfin, Realtor.com and ActiveRain and all the rest will help others...find you?

Richie: If Zillow does acquire Trulia, then the 'door' will be wide open for a competing website to Active Rain. Too much control and consolidation from the 'dark side Luke'!

Richie, Big Trouble in Little China ... comes to my mind. Realtors will most surely become legal nationally syndicated prostitutes to corporate real estate Giants ... more so than ever before.  I think the industry needs major reform ... back to basics!

Richie there are approximately 14 disciplines in a real estate transaction.  Yes, at the end of the day, it is a people business.  These sites: Zillow, Tulia, Active Rain, Market Leader  are vehicles for the customers to reach the real estate profressionals.  Just more tools in the tool box.  Zillow will never become Google in my opinion but perception becomes reality for most folks. Then...it's history repeating itself.... a monopoly!  Wasn't Ma Bell de-regulated for that reason?

Richie~ I hope the FTC steps in and does their job! If not, can you say the most notorious power hungry company that lacks transparency will own a "monopoly"... I love the folks that feel this deal is adaptable, only if they really knew what that means... BTW: Kathleen nails it "let the prostitution begin"

I don't know what to think. It's mind-boggling to me. I just don't understand how repackaging our own MLS system data and forcing us to pay for it ( again) is legal. I pay money to belong to the RMLS - and then have to pay more money to ensure consumers realize it's my listing?  Seriously, there is something very wrong with this picture. With that said, I accepted Trulia's relationship with AR - even though the agents who have big budgets for marketing are the only ones who win with these sites.  FYI, I'm in AR blogging because I don't have a big budget. Now, will the mother-ship send my potential leads to Zillow/Trulia agents with the big $$$$ power?

Hello Kathleen...its people like you that are the value...Give me 100 Kathleen's and I will show you 100 profit and success stories...

Eileen....you raise a good point. The capitalistic system is aggressive and money centered on the backs of people...On Google, don't you wish you bought a few shares?

Tom...You cant get these big sites to caravan, take a call, do a comp or open an escrow but we can and we do...and that is where it is all going and will end it up..Our backyards!

Grant...true words and life goes on...Perhaps Google will Gobble it all in the end?

Jon...what can you do? Someone took what you and I love to do and made money on it

Ted...everyone involved knew it before the lowly, poster and blogger did...for quite some time too

Hello Debb...well your thinking cap is on and working pretty well. In the end, will the MLS survive? Will these sites? They all need one thing. Little ole licensed me and you

     Internet Dominance!

The one group that doesn't seem to get it is NAR.  While Zillow and Trulia leave Realtor dot com in the dust,  NAR focuses on building a new headquarters that will rival the Rockefeller Center (their words, not mine).  NAR continues to push their political agenda.  They continue to do everything except trying to restore Realtor .com to a viable Website.

Hello Fred...In a tight spot, call Fred first. NAR reminds me of Rome during its greatness. Don't forget Rome fell and before so, corrupted itself and collapsed from within

Internet dominance - Z to rule the world! But only in their eyes. Good post Richie with a level headed attitude.

One thing this did make me think of - 'others' get paid for the real estate education they post on different sites like Ask, etc. We on AR do not - that's a mistake that I believe I made when I first started this adventure. I should be getting paid for my perspectives, good, bad, right, wrong.
