Making a Difference in My Community – An ActiveRain Contest!
My spouse and I make a difference in our community.
We assist at the Senior Center….I was once the receptionist there about four days a month. That unpaid position was accountable for taking receipts for lunches, answering questions, being the person who booked seniors for various activities and trips and serving on the Caring Communities Committee which aided our community by adding a transportation system for seniors to get to their medical, dental, and other health-related appointments, banks and shopping.
We also assist at the Humane Society, and while we have cut back on taking new dogs in until our darling dog has passed over the Rainbow Bridge, we have cared for orphans from time to time. They provided lots of amusement and gave Felknapp some much needed exercise watching over them!
We both also have volunteered at the local food shelf by sorting and bagging food for individuals, And, we unload and store donations, too.
We both help with babysitting for people seeking jobs, and I donate clothing for those who need work clothes for their new jobs from time to time.
I have donated perennials to the local community gardens and assited with many projects in giving new gardeners lessons on growing perennials, vegetables and ornamental trees, too.
Finding time to fit all the activities in sometimes has been a challenge, but we enjoy getting our neighbors involved in some of these intersts and activities that we enjoy and that they might as well. Many of our neighbors are retired or near retirement so we try to engage them in volunteer opportunities that they may well enjoy now and in their coming years as well.
We love being able to pitch in and give back to a community that we love!
