The Gilroy Garlic Festival is happening now, the weekend of July 25-27, 2014. If you are in Santa Clara County or anywhere in Silicon Valley, it is a worthwhile trip to "south county" for this amazing festival. It's a little warmer in Gilroy than in most of the San Francisco Bay Area, so pack extra water, hats with wide brims, light clothing and comfy walking shoes or better sandles.
Never been? Gilroy rightly claims to be "The Garlic Capital of the World". And this time of year, you actually can smell it before you see it. The Garlic Festival naturally includes tons of fabulous foods (many of them cooked in front of patrons over flaming stovetops - hard in the heat!). It also includes foods that may call to your curiosity but not necessarily sound so good, such as garlic ice cream or garlic chocolate.
Beverages, including wine and beer, can be found too. Live bands on several stages, with different types of music, make the Garlic Festival appeal to just about anyone - even those on a diet! Add to that some booths with vendors selling their arts & crafts, and it's a pretty complete picture of a wonderful California summer food festival.
