A Tale of a Lost Dog, Diesel, Who Was Found

A Tale of a Lost Dog, Diesel, Who Was Found

My friends relayed this story to me as they know I am involved in rescuing animals. This story bares repeating

They went camping in Arizona and of course it is about 114 degrees in the daytime. They always take their two Yorkies with them but take extremely good care of these little doggies. Anyway, they went off to swim for a couple of hours and when they came back, on of their dogs was missing, little Diesel that weighs about 3 lbs.

So they went down to the water, checked the area and started driving around. They reported it to the Shelter the following day and started making posters and posting them around the area and put them on many of the trash dumpsters.

Meanwhile 2.5 days later a trashman was working the late shift and when he went to the dump, he noticed a little dog that was filty dirty, tired,  hungry and thirsty. He picked this little guy up and dropped it off at home and had his wife give him a bath and food/ water. He went back to work and sometime during the night, while picking up dumpsters he saw the 'Missing Poster' and called the phone number.

Of course my friends were so excited to get him back and took him to the vet nearby. After some tests and two visits, he got a clean bill of health. And I am happy to say that Diesel is back home with his family and sister and doing just fine.

Oh, when I heard this story my first question was how did he get out of the RV? A family friend opened the door and then went searching for him but....when he couldn't find him, he just didn't say anything and of course several hours passed. The family is very upset still over this unexcusable act.

I follow the FB pages on missing and found pets, and always tell them to put out posters. Just this weekend 4 dogs were found and 2 of them from posters they saw. Facebook networking is also very successful. In your area, there are probably many sites people post lost pets on. I am so busy selling real estate but rescuing dogs is my second job.

Hi Sussie,

This could have ended so much worse. With the heat and all and there was no way she could have walked that far either.

hes a lucky boy ! The heat alone was dangerous but being that little, he can surely be overlooked... glad this was a happy reunion. I too love my dogs as family.

Hi Patty,

I know you are actively involved in no-kill dog shelters and rescues. I see that it is such a good cause as the need is out there big time.

Oh, I am so glad Diesel is back home, and kudos to the trashman who found him, and his wife who took such great care of him.  Both of them deserve a dinner out!

Hi Suzanne,

I am sure my friend was so grateful for his good deed. Those little Yorkies are so tiny but amazing she survived 2.5 days in the desert. I guess the will to live to come home to his family carried him through.

It's wonderful to hear of stories with good endings about animals.  Is it my imagination or is the media covering more abuse and cruelty stories?

Yes, I think they love the drama of crime stories, natural hazards, and shocking stories.

Oh Kristin, so happy this one had a happy ending.  My doggie is also named Diesel but he is a bulldog so I had to read this one-these doggies are sometimes way too curious!

Hi Joanna,

Yes this was a good ending for such a traumatic event that should never had happen. The poor family and friends were devastated and hoped for the best but worried it would not end well. Trash men our our friends and always do a great service but in this case, he did more.

Hi Mark,

Exactly....I think they will never forgive the person who caused it but if they do they are a better person than I would be. I would not forgive or forget.
