Sales Tax Holiday in Katy and all of Texas August 8 to August 10, 2014

The annual Sales Tax Holiday this year in Texas starts on Friday August 8 and lasts until Sunday August 10, 2014. The law exempts most clothing, school supplies, backpacks, footwear from sales tax. The Sales Tax rate in Katy is 8.25 % and obviously the savings to be potentially eraned are large. .

There is a complete list of items which are exempt from Sale Tax on the State Comptroller's website. This list can be found here.

The State estimates consumers will save $82.7 Million in sales tax during this 3 day holiday. Katy ISD starts its 2014- 2015 school year on August 25, 2014 and the Tax Holiday comes at a great time for parents and students.

Everyone who has a student returning to school needs to take advantage of this Tax break Holiday and buy the needed supplies, clothing and footwear.

I think this is such a great idea. I know other communities offer the same tax savings during this brief "back-to-school" shopping frenzy. Every penny helps, and families with several kids can sure spend a lot of dough to get them all back to the classroom.

This is a wonderful feature and I think they do it in Pennsylvania too. I of course pay 8% all year for everything. UGH!

Bob-I saw a sign today at Target making this announcement. No school aged kids here now so opportunity for savings lost. Oh well.

thanks everyone for your comments. we have only a soon to be 21 year old who is in College. The tax holiday covering clothing for example exempts all priced per item at $100 and does not matter if you hvea school aged child.
