How many of you have a Puggle?

Puppy     She was the cutest darn puppy I had laid my eyes on in a long time.  I didn't know very much about the new 'hybrid' breed, but she's cute so it didn't matter.  In December of 2006, we had to put my best friend, Charles, to sleep.  He was the best Boxer I had ever known and I was devastated.  I thought a new puppy would help relieve some of the pain.

I love Lucy Mae.  We got her a few days after the passing of Charles.  She was the most relaxed of the bunch, and she slept A LOT!  But that didn't last long.  I was not prepared for the energy level of this puppy after having gotten comfortable with my old lazy Boxer.

A Puggle, is a cross between a Pug and Beagle.  Here is a visual for those who can't imagine it;

pug         +     beagle

Ultimately EQUALS:

puggle    This is one HIGH ENERGY DOG!!

She's great with my daughter, but she loves to chew my daughters toys.  Usually she's good about staying within her fenced yard, but she loves to dig holes in it.  She's got the bark of Beagle, and she isn't afraid to use it, EVER!

A great resource to learn more about this breed is this website here:

                                        www.puggle.org

If you have a Puggle, I would love to hear your stories!

Hello,

My name is Nicole (Ken's wife). Your blog just brought me to tears. We recently lost our 10 year old chocolate lab (Boo). Your story reminded me of him. I have not heard of the Puggle, very cute! The picture made me smile. Thank you. Nicole

Natalie - Let me know how that works out and I'll help you promote it! LOL

Nicole - I am so sorry about Boo.  It almost brings me to tears thinking of your pain.  It's such a hard thing to do.  I hated doing it for Charles, but he was in pain and it was his time.  Not a day goes by that I don't think of him and I still have pictures of him all over my house.  I'm glad I could make you smile today. Thanks for stopping by!

We hang at the doggie park quite a bit and yes those dogs are crazy!  They have just as much energy as my Italian Greyhounds and surprisingly they are quite speedy too!  Their personalities are amazing!

Ken & Nicole - I thought about you guys all night last night.  I felt really bad. I didn't mean for anyone to get upset!

Heather - Irony makes the world spin. I have to giggle to myself. Did they research the dog before the bought it? Just curious. They will no doubt love the Puggle's antics.

Renee - speedy, YES! Lucy Mae loves to chase the cats through the house. Lucky for the cats we have hard wood floors and Lucy Mae simply cannot catch them. Otherwise they would be in trouble! Although she wouldn't hurt them, she's just super excited and really wants to play!

Hi Tricia,
How cute and no I was not aware of  Puggles (love the name).  High energy dogs are a challenge, I've had experience with a Boston Terrier and Jack Russell so I understand!

Chris - I like the 'yet' part.  LOL, if you do get one, I expect to see pictures!

Cynthia - I briefly had a Jack Russel once.  It never occured to me to compare the two, but you are right, just less jumping and bouncing with the Puggle and more running in circles!

Patrice - You know, many people have said that she has the 'Boxer look.' I can see it somewhat. She is very cute. I had her outside a moment ago but she was standing on a tall planter box I have barking non-stop at the wind. I had to bring her inside for a 'time-out,' if you will.

Thanks everyone for stopping by!

I have two pugs- or should I say they have me!  Misha and Mikey are rescues from SEPRA and I can't imagine how boring life would be without them.

Tricia - Lucy Mae is adorable.  I have an unofficial boxer/beagle mix.  Very similar to Puggle just a little bigger.  Her name is Millie, we adopted her last May after losing our 14 yr old lab.  I'm new to blogging so I don't know how to add her photo but I'll figure that out - would love to post her pic to the site.

I met a puggle yesterday that was too cute...I was doing an appraisal and the people said their daughter had "dropped" the dog on them.  i told them I would help to find another home for him if they didn't want him, I'm not sure what they will decide but he sure is cute...

Hi Tricia, your puggle is so cute.  I never heard of them.  I know how youfeel having to put one to sleep.  It is very difficult.  We had to put down our golden retriever a few years ago, and we got another puppy not too long after that.

Linda - I love Pugs! Whenever I see them I can always see Lucy's face in theirs! Are they full of energy?

Babette - I love Boxers!! One of my favorite breeds. I think it's interesting the mixes people are able to find these days!

Patrice - I dropped a couple animals on my parents too when I was growing up. My mom prefered to get rid of them but we never did!

Vickie - After getting the new puppy, I thought maybe it was too soon, but she quickly grew into our family! I'm sure yours did too! Thanks for stopping by!

yes we have a puggle and i would not trade her for the world..She minds very well but yet does have a mind of her own. (but so do my children )but you can make them calm down just have to be consistant with puggles.  she is a big baby wants someone with her at all times (maybe a little spoiled) she goes to doggy day care every day my sisters boxer babysits her while i am at work or at the store can never leave her at home alone.  In aug. we are going to get another puggle because they say 2 PUGGLES  are better than ONE.  Maybe then she will be able to stay at home with the other puggle.  She is wonderfull  I think everyone needs puggles in their lifes.

I know how important it was for me to have a puppy immediately after losing my dog of 14 yrs!  My husband kept motivating me to get a puppy towards the end of my senior dog's days and I was hesitant.  But after the entire experience it was the best thing for us.  Not saying the new dog ever replaces the old one, but new life brings a smile when you are grieving!  What a cute dog!!!!  Best regards!

We have two shelter-adopted pugs at our house, and I can't imagine being without them now.  Misha is a former puppy mill mother, rescued at 7 years of age, and Mikey was found at a shelter, about to be euthanized when the FDA inspector offered to take him to SEPRA, (Southeast Pug Rescue).  Pugs are wonderful companions, very devoted to "their people".  Go to www.RescuePug.com, for some great pug pictures and stories!
