Are you a Freddy Flapman Kind of Agent?

I was watching some old Seasame Street reruns with my toddlers, and came across a real estate related skit.  Freddy Flapman is a go-getter, bird real estate agent who is trying to convince Big Bird to migrate to another habitat.  Big Bird is shown the beach, the swamp and the rain forest.  Big Bird loves the first two, but he doesn't want to move.  They are just nice places to visit.  However, once his is shown the rain forest he's is convinced to start packing and move off Sesame Street.

I can't say that Mr. Flapman is shown as the most upstanding professional in this show.  He is a bit smarmy and seemingly cares more about making a sale than listening to his client's needs.  I think we have all had times that we knew what our clients needed when they might not have known for themselves.  However, do you think anyone would be happy with their decisions if they were not made on their own?  Besides, where else in the world could Big Bird be happy without his friends on Sesame Street?

Do you truly listen to what your clients are telling you?  I try to make it a practice not to convince anyone to do anything.  I don't "sell" real estate.  I broker transactions.
