Be Aggressive - Diary of a New Realtor

Real Estate Agent with BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY HomeServices, PINEHURST REALTY GROUP NC#280490

"Be agressive." aggressive. That's some of the brilliant advice I've received as I've begun to navigate the world of Real Estate. But there's a problem; I'm not agressive. I'm not a salesperson. There is nothing wrong with being a salesperson, I quite envy the chap that can sell a screen-door to a submarine. That's just not me. I feel sorry for the submarine. I want to tell it it's sinking...

"It's a cut-throat business. You have to be strong." Um. I might cry if you're mean to me. In my car. After you yell at me. I don't do cut-throat. "You've got to push. Push. Push Push." But I'm a hugger, not a pusher.

Here's the thing, folks. I might be new at this but I have an old soul. I was serious when I took my oath to advocate for my customers and put their needs above mine. That's how I'm wired.

And this is why, I think, I'm going to kick ask and take name badges: Because I work hard. Because I have integrity. Because I will fight for my clients like a mother hen if anyone tries to nickel and dime them.

And then, hopefully, we'll all hug it out and sit down for a nice lunch at the "Olive Garden." Because when you're there, you're family.

Luckily, I ended up in a firm with an incredible bunch of people who have gone out of their way to help me. I know I have a lot to learn. I'll do anything for anyone without stepping on toes or compromising my integrity. I'll leave the sales at the mall. Let's see how I'm doing in a few months. This should be fun!

As you move through the months, remember "you can't fix stupid", sometimes you just have to "push" it along.

When you simply help people get what they want, you're not a salesperson, you're an adviser. People who are sold usually sell themselves on the value of their purchase, so simply help people like you would want to be helped in their situation and you'll do well. Best of success to you and your business.

Rachel: You will encounter a great number of self-serving agents, perhaps even in your own office, as you really get to know them. My advice is to keep your potential deals close to your vest and do not share any information about your pipeline with ANYONE! I have been 'burned' on numerous occasions and will never again be taken for a ride by a peer.

It took me a couple of years but then I learned to stop listening to everyone who told me how to run my business--and then decided to do it 'my way' --which means in a way I am comfortable with.  I remember all the 'be agressive' advice in the beginning, make X number of cold calls...that isn't me.

Be true to yourself as you work hard and you will be successful!

Rachel, DC is wonderful this week.  The weather has been perfect (unusual for this time of year).  And while I love the entire state of North Carolina, it must have been hard to leave Annapolis.

Oh!  And I think it's time for you to write another blog post!  As you can tell, a lot of us enjoyed reading what you have to say.

So, Rachel's not a pushy saleswoman.

But I'm getting the vibe that she's a dedicated and professional real estate consultant.  Some people prefer that.

Go, go work your craft. You certainly already have your personal policies defined.  Integrity included.

I believed that if you would just be yourself you will invite buyers or sellers that is just a perfect match for you to help them in there journey of buying or selling properties. As you grow your business you will find out that some buyers/ sellers are not your cup of tea. But the best part is you keep movi'n on to the next one.

Be Professional. In my region there is a dilution in that so REALTORs® that strive to be the "go to" person/resource while exhibiting true traits of professionalism will be more magnetically inclined to attract better clients and be referred to, thus closing more deals in a more fun and fulfilling manner.

Really enjoyed this post.  I think being true to yourself and having integrity will get you much further in life and in this business.  People can see when you are not authentic and you will feel 'off' trying to be someone that you really are not.  The right kind of clients will come your way that appreciate your honesty and non-aggressive ways and will refer you more because of your approach.  Good luck and all the best!

Your gameplan sounds similar to mine. It is starting to pay off a little bit in terms of $$$, but even more so receiving compliments from people I have never met before!

There a lot of agents who think that being aggressive is good. I'm not always sharing this opinion, because there are different ways of being aggressive in this business.
