Hiking the Finger Lakes Waterfalls.
You might be surprised but there are many beautiful and large size waterfalls around the Finger Lakes. One of our favorite is the Buttermilk Falls State Park just south of Ithaca. There is a swimming area along with a beautiful hiking trail up the falls to several pools and smaller falls. Dogs on leash are allowed at this site but not at the swimming hole.
Robert H. Treman State Park just down the road from Buttermilk has much larger swimming and picnic area for the family at the lower entrance and at the upper entrance there are beautiful hiking trails to the Lucifer Falls.
Watkins Glen State Park at the bottom of Seneca Lake is one of the most famous of the Finger Lakes State Parks with 19 waterfalls along its course. Dogs are allowed on lease. There is an entrance fee for all these parks of $8 a day but good at all parks so keep your receipt.
Taughannock Falls State Park has spectacular views from the 400 feet gorge with the falls plunging215 feet. Below the gorge on Cayuga Lake are campsites, boat ramps and hiking trails. Pets allowed on leash.
