The Most Current Trends in Social Media Marketing
1. Image-centric networks
While Facebook still has the largest number of users, networks with a focus on photography and images such as Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest are growing larger and larger every quarter. According to research by RJ Metrics, Instagram has seen the largest growth in user activity between the second quarter and fourth quarter of 2013, while Pinterest has seen the highest user retention rate.
2. The use of micro-videos
A micro-video is simply an ultra short video, just a few seconds. Social networks such as Vine and Instagram allow users to communicate via these micro-videos. This year, we will see more and more companies using these to advertise and send messages to prospects.
3. Some social networks are losing popularity
Social networks Google + and Foursquare seem to be losing users. Many users have a hard time making Google + work for them. This being said, 61 % of businesses still plan on using Google + for marketing this year.
The original Foursquare allowed users to find others nearby by “checking in” to certain neighborhoods. The network will now be separated into two parts: the original Foursquare, and a new app called Swarm. Swarm allows users to find friends without the “check-in”. It is also competing with Yelp to become a source for local recommendations and reviews.
