Some of the worlds greatest athletes are converging on Boulder Boulder Colorado is not only
one of the most beautiful cities in the country, it is also a favorite spot for triathletes to train. And this weekend the Boulder Ironman Triathlon will take place.
Personally it has been a long time since I have trained hard enough to compete in a sport, unless you consider swinging a driver, carrying a golf bag and walking 18 holes an incredible athletic feat. If that is your idea of a great athlete, then we should go train together, in fact we should set a tee time right now and go train for 4 or 5 hours. Let me know.... seriously, lets train.
Back to the real athletes, I have a good friend, in fact she was the maid of honor in my wedding, that took this sport up at the ripe young age of
50, this will be her third Ironman competition and it is truly inspirational to watch the transformation she has gone through, not that she was ever out of shape, but she looks like she could compete in a Miss Fitness America contest. I guess it just goes to show you are never too old to try something new.
Boulder has always been one of my favorite cities, as a child growing up about 15 miles southeast of Boulder, me and a couple buddies would ride our bikes up to the University of Colorado campus to enjoy the scenery, mind you we were young teenagers and college girls were pretty amazing, I still can't believe we would ride our bikes (my old Schwinn Varsity) 15 miles each way at that young age on the highways just to see young coeds.I believe that was as close as I ever got to training for a triathlon.
Definitely got my blood pumping.
Boulder was such a fun city, and perhaps the most bike friendly city I have ever been to. They have bike lanes all around the town, with stop signs and at the time little street lights. There are probably more bikes than cars in this town of roughly 100,000 people and it is one of the healthiest cities in the country.
If you are in the area and wondering what all the traffic relocation is about, it is for the triathlon and if you are new to the area, park your car and hop on a bike or go for a walk through the campus or Chautauqua park and really soak in this wonderful city.
