BirchrunvilleChester County Town Tours & Village Walks are continuing in August with three more tours: August 7, Malvern Borough:125 Years of History by Trolley, August 14, Oxford Historic District Tour & Taste (I love this place-and this year they are offering “the snack flavors of Oxford.”). and August 21, Romansville: John Romans and his Village.(left, Birchrunville last month)

Also, the Costumes of Downton Abbey are still on exhibit at Winterthur. This has been their most highly attended special exhibit ever! Open Edith's weddinguntil January 4, it is an original exhibition of exquisite designs from the award-winning television series.   Meanwhile, the second Saturday Garden walks continue August 9 at 7 p.m. for a sunset walk from the historic Winterthur train station (bring a flashlight and be prepared for a long walk).

The West Chester, PA radio station WCHE, 1520 on the dial, has a weekly program, Passing Time, presented by the Chester County Historical Society. Chester County Hist. Soc.Two particularly interesting programs are coming up: August 20 - Delores Rowe, glimpses of the past, discusses businesses, people, and events from Avondale, Chatham, Kennett Square, Oxford, West Grove, and the surrounding area.  And on August 27 - Laurie Rofini and Ellen Endslow delve into the Passmore Williamson prison visitors' book preservation project.  Hear more about this book that was identified as Pennsylvania's number one endangered artifact.

Lewes pierSpend a summer day in historic Lewes, Delaware, exploring Delaware's maritime and coastal heritage. Choose from a list including Fort Miles, the Kalmar Nyckel, Overfalls Lightship, historic Lewes, and a trip on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. There is an optional seafood dinner from 5-7 p.m. Reservations here. Photo courtesy Delaware Historical Society.

Another nice way to spend a summer day would be at theRead House gardenRead House and Gardens, in Old New Castle, Delaware. Since the Delaware Historical Society museum in Wilmington is closed for renovations, this would be a great time to visit the Read House and walk along the Delaware River and catch one of the last 2 summer concerts in Battery Park on August 6 or 13 at 6:30 p.m.

And don't forget, if you are looking to buy or sell an older or historic home, contact Carolyn Roland or visit Carolyn's website.
