Roadmap for a Teacher Transitioning to a Fulltime Real Estate Career

There are many very successful real estate professionals who are former educators.  Here is a roadmap to help you make that transition.

If there is a perfect plan, it looks something like this …

  • ·     Mindset:  We say that clarity is power and you get what you deserve in your imagination.  With that in mind …

o   What does it mean to you to have a successful real estate business?

o   What will this do for you & your family?

o   What is your vision of your success?

o   What is your “big why?”  Why real estate? Why Realtor? Why entrepreneur?  Why financial success?

  • ·         Winter / spring – get your real estate license, build up financial reserves

·         Start working on your contact database (who do you know?) and start talking about your plan, start talking about real estate, start studying the market; find your first few soon-to-be-clients who intend to buy, sell or invest in real estate this summer.  Interview brokers.  Seek shadow or mentor opportunities.

  • ·         Spring – choose and join your broker.
  • ·        June - August:  Train, ramp-up client engagement, train, furiously build market knowlege
  • ·         School year

o   If financial reserves are solid (recommend 6 months reserves), then fulltime in real estate

o   If financial reserves are not yet in place, teach that year, building your reserves and working real estate part-time with the intention of this being your last year teaching

o   Rinse & repeat until you have a solid reserve, work ethic, network and drive

Julie-The plan you laid out is outstanding. Getting the financial reserves in place cannot be overemphasized.
