The Dog Days of Summer

Now that the "dog days of summer" are nearly over, well, nearly, I thought I would reminisce a little about summer in St Augustine and maybe get some feedback from you all as well.  The origin of the word "vacation" comes directly from the latin "vacationem", meaning leisure, freedom, exemption, being free from duty.  Now we have a new word in the dictionary - "Staycation", meaning a vacation spent at home or nearby, "a stay-at home-vacation".

There are/were too many things to do locally and nearby to list, but this could be an FYI for next summer.  First, "Simply St. Augustine" is the go-to site for what's happening here in the summer.  How about the Splash Park at the pier, the Wednesday free concerts at the beach, the concerts in the Plaza, 6 free classical concerts in the Cathedral, the many live shows at the Amphitheatre plus the Nighttime cinema series, Ripley's movies on the Bay, the Imax 3D theatre for rainy days, summer golf deals all over the area, a tour of the chocolate factory, chocolate making classes for children at Peterbrooks...and endless opportunities for children with weekly surf camps, history camps at both the Castillo and Fort Matanzas, theatre...I'm only scratching the surface - day trips to Jacksonville, the Cummer museum , the zoo... Cross Creek, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings home... or how about a day trip to one of the springs?  And the BEACH of course!!!  If you didn't have fun this summer with all these choices, many of them free, shame on you!!  What an amazing place we live in!!

Hi Murrell,  Haven't been to St. Augustine yet but it is definitely on my list to visit.  Everyone I know who visits there loves it.  What an amazing venue of events!
