Nonstop Celtic music will be on tap at the 51st Annual Colorado Scottish Festival and Rocky Mountain Highlands Games, which promises events to please all ages. Highlight of the Festival will be Spanish bagpiper Carlos Munoz, performing Saturday night’s concert under the big tent.
Don’t miss the Midday Ceremonies for the march of the clans and the Dogs of the British Isles, then feel the shake of the earth as 100 or more pipers and drummers play together across the field.
Be present as the Fair Lassies of the Festival (eyes tastefully covered, of course) judge the Bonnie (pretty) Knees Contest for gentlemen wearing kilts — to much merriment from the audience.
Experience the brawn, skill and power of the great Scottish athletes as they throw the caber (telephone pole) and contrast that with the grace and skill of the Scottish, Irish, Welsh and Morris dancers.
Watch as historic re-enactors stage vigorous mock battles and specially trained dogs demonstrate sheepherding. Chat with vendors selling Scottish food and wares, and enjoy a free taste of haggis (Scottish soul food) washed down with a wee dram of whiskey for adults.
Enjoy pipe band competitions and cheer on the contestants in the fun and funny Hot Piping and Drumming Contest early Saturday evening.
Shop for traditional Scottish fare — and if you’re of an age, enjoy a cold brew or wee drop of Scotland’s finest whiskey in one of several pub tents.
