The SoCal Costa Mesa ActiveRain Meetup August 7, 2014 - a Huge Success
Our meetup today at Maggiano’s at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa was a huge success. And why shouldn’t it have been, given the crew that was there?
First of all many thanks to host Pete X, who coordinated the whole thing, posted about the event, was in touch with fellow Rainers about attending, AND provide some terrific entertainment. More on that shortly.
We had Rainers from as close as 5 minutes away (John Meussner), and as far as about 3000 miles.
Ed Silva, from Connecticut, was on vacation with his family in the San Diego area, and we drove up together today. We had plenty of time to chat, given horrendous traffic due to an accident, but it was well worth it. And now Ed has experienced the California freeways at the best of times!
Also in attendance – of course our host, Pete X (what IS his real last name BTW?) who did NOT wear a tux as you see in his profile pic, Sarah and Lester Oswald, Richie Naggar, Kimo Jarrett, Jon Kolsky, John Meussner, and the aerial photographer whose name I forgot (and who going to join AR!) who provided the real entertainment – a demo of a drone in the parking lot (and no doubt some great photos of us all to follow but here is a teaser).
Pete even hired his own additional photographer so expect some REALLY great photos of the festivities in the near future.
It was especially fun since I “knew” everyone, but had only met Ed and John in person.
And the cow bell made its appearance, too. You can read about that on Pete’s blog (his last name, btw, is Xavier – I looked it up), and Google Will Farrell + Cowbell for more deets.
All in all an amazing gathering of bright and talented people, terrific food, great service and a memorable time.
And on a side note...Ed and I (mostly Ed) participated in a virtual meetup via Facetimewith the folks back in Connecticut while we were speeding down the freeway at 80 mph heading home. You can read about that meetup here!
