The SoCal Costa Mesa ActiveRain Meetup August 7, 2014 - a Huge Success

Our meetup today at Maggiano’s at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa was a huge success. And why shouldn’t it have been, given the crew that was there?

What are thoe ActiveRain people doing?

First of all many thanks to host Pete X, who coordinated the whole thing, posted about the event, was in touch with fellow Rainers about attending, AND provide some terrific entertainment. More on that shortly.

The Costa Mesa CA ActiveRain meetup August 7, 2014  The Costa Mesa CA ActiveRain meetup August 7,

We had Rainers from as close as 5 minutes away (John Meussner), and as far as about 3000 miles.

Ed Silva, from Connecticut, was on vacation with his family in the San Diego area, and we drove up together today. We had plenty of time to chat, given horrendous traffic due to an accident, but it was well worth it. And now Ed has experienced the California freeways at the best of times!

Also in attendance – of course our host, Pete X (what IS his real last name BTW?) who did NOT wear a tux as you see in his profile pic, Sarah and Lester Oswald, Richie Naggar, Kimo Jarrett, Jon Kolsky, John Meussner, and the aerial photographer whose name I forgot (and who going to join AR!) who provided the real entertainment – a demo of a drone in the parking lot (and no doubt some great photos of us all to follow but here is a teaser).

Pete even hired his own additional photographer so expect some REALLY great photos of the festivities in the near future.

It was especially fun since I “knew” everyone, but had only met Ed and John in person.

And the cow bell made its appearance, too. You can read about that on Pete’s blog (his last name, btw, is Xavier – I looked it up), and Google Will Farrell + Cowbell for more deets.

All in all an amazing gathering of bright and talented people, terrific food, great service and a memorable time.

And on a side note...Ed and I (mostly Ed) participated in a virtual meetup via Facetimewith the folks back in Connecticut while we were speeding down the freeway at 80 mph heading home. You can read about that meetup here!

Norma - it was great. Too bad you could not be there (next time?) but good to hear you were busy!

Tom - it is ALWAYS worth the effort. Too bad some don't realize this. But life and business do get in the way sometimes

Wow, 3000 miles?! That person should get a prize! Glad to see you had a successful meet-up! We had ours yesterday as well and I think it was very informative!

Hi, Jeff...It sounds like you had a neat meetup. I can't believe you got someone there from the other side of the country. That is so neat.

Jeff, is there any more meet up next week in SoCal? I will be in San Diego.

And love to learn more about Drones - can you share some more info about that? (I am in search of an aerial photographer - not so expensive!)

Shannon - good for you! Yes it was a great meetup

Debbie - it was very cool to have someone from back east. And I attended 2 meetups in New England when I was there a few months ago

Praful - nothing more planned close by, But if you and I can plan a time perhaps we can get a few others together. A series of photos via drone costs about $500 - worth it for certain listings

George - Ed was great fun. We met earlier this year when I was in CT, as I think you kn0w (you were, sadly, tied up). It was fun to be in on YOUR meetup even though we were on the freeway.

Margaret - it was pretty cool. Not sure what else could have made it better

Evelyn - it was great fun. But no gossip to share. Everyone behaved...LOL

I heard you have quite a heatwave, but hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and people will continue to get along in the SoCal area. Love and light, Laura

Jeff,

Thanks for your kind words and presence at the meet-up!

After sending out the emails and phone calls I was only hoping for a decent turn out, I was surprised of the many that came.

The added slice of pizzazz was fun...great picture of Ed Silva & the cowbell!

See you in the Rain!
