Two Classic Car Events This Weekend August 8-9-10/2014

Our area Classic Car Events for the Chatham-Kent area this summer are coming to an end with a bang this weekend. Two of the biggest events are taking place this weekend August 8-9-10 2014 and you do not want to miss them!

First on the agends is Wambo in Wallaceburg.  It is one of Canada's Largest Transportation  Shows. The show features Antique Boats which are my favorite or Antique Classic and Specialty CarsClassic Car and much more. There is something for everyone's taste. Antique Fire Trucks and Motorcycles will be there as well as displays of Models and Toys, and some new additions this year, an Air Boat Display, Martial Arts Display, a Chain Saw Carving Display, Model Trains and Antique Tractors. Food vendors line the street, Live Entertainment, Karioke, Art in the Park, Craft Tables, Souvenirs,Face Painting and even a Soap Box Derby. The main live entertainment tent will feature Blutonium on Friday Evening starting a 7 P.M. and Katmandu, a Bob Seger Tribue Band  on Saturday evening. Bring your Lawn chairs.  Check the schedule of events for times of other scheduled happenings.

Starting Friday night the Specialty and Antique Cars entering the Dream Parade will start to assemble from 5-7 P.M. at the Canadian Tire and the parade will start at 7 P.M. If you have never attended, pick a spot on the route and enjoy or arrive before the start of the parade. Wander around the parking lot and talk to the proud owners. Detail of the route can be found on the website. There is also a Knights of Columbus Barbeque held each year at 7 P.M. on Friday night at the corner of James and Nelson St. on the banks of the Sydenham River. I can vouch for that meal. It was great. Also, if you want a restaurant meal, try the James St. Eatery. This is the old Fiesta Grill on the main street which has been a staple of Wallaceburg for years. The son has taken over, done some renovations and my wife and I ate there a few times this past winter. It was wonderful and reasonably priced. Give it a try. There you have it. The makings of a fun weekend and according to the long range weather report a sunny warm one too.

Also taking place this weekend is the Bothwell Car Show at Victoria Park in Bothwell which is always the same weekend in August as Wambo. It is the Largest South Western Automotive Flea Market. Started over 30 years ago, this small town swells to thousands on this weekend. There has been as many as 1000 collectors cars present for the show.Classic Car It is organized by the old Auto Newspaper and Bothwell and District Optimist Club. Old Autos is a Canadian newspaper published twice a year and is dedicated to the Auto Enthusiast. Its base is in Bothwell. The event begins with a Parade on Friday night at 7 P.M. Several of the vendors will set up in the park on Friday Night and the Car Show takes place Saturday. I am told that if you are looking for anything associated with classic autos, parts or specialty items, this will be the place to find it! Each year the organizers chose a special group of classic autos to feature. This year it is the early 70`s (1971-1975) These owners will be honored with free admission and special gift draws and plaques.

Cost to enter the show is only $5.00 per day and car entries are $10.00 Call 1-800-461-3657 for more information or go to their website. Fun, Food and Great Cars!
