No! No! I WILL NOT BE USING A DRONE!!! A drone for real estate?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

During my real estate career I must admit that I have sorta been forced into things by a forceful daughter.  Way back in the early 1990's she made this statement, "Mom, you need a computer."

"What's a computer?" was my probable reply.  She conveniently left hers with me while she wasn't using it and I played around on it and fell in love.  1993 sticks in my mind because that's when I bought my very own computer.....a little laptop that didn't take up much room in my tiny office.  I was able to type all my clients in and let them all know that I was moving to RE/MAX and that I wanted to continue having their trust.

Several computers later, I was still in the real estate business and thanked the forceful daughter for her pushy ways.

Then in about 2007, she says, "Mom, you need to do a blog."  Say again?  A blog?  What's a blog?

But I tried it out.  The first blog I did was about her and her wiliness.

It seems impossible today to think that I have been on activerain since 2007!  And it has been good for me.  I evolved into a sort-of historic blogger about our little town of Searcy.  And of course, she pointed out that I could share the blog on facebook (Well, yes, she pushed facebook on me too)  and when I do that the number of folks who click on the blog climbs high in just a little while.  One of the newspapers, Arkansas Business, even wrote a little article about me and titled it, "Would you like a little history with that?"

And around 2011 the forceful daughter came back to Searcy and has learned the real estate business.  She is not just a daughter but also an associate and we can be called a team.

But the buck stops right here!  We were at a charitable auction last night and SHE BOUGHT A DRONE!

She says that is the way things are going.  She will use it to take pictures of houses, etc., etc.  I screamed, covered my ears and ran away!

NO!  NO!  I will not be using a drone!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don, I remember now.  I thought it strange that someone contacted me to ask why I bought something.  LOL  Now I need to check on when Anita came on the scene.  You two have been my best friends.

Only time will truly tell Barbara. I can see you flying that drone around once you see the incredible view of your listing pics. Wishing you great success with your next tech adventure.

There are quite a few progressive Realtors experimenting with drones here in AZ. So far the results are mixed.  I'm not in line to buy mine.....yet!

The FAA says drones are illegal, although this is being challenged in court  ... Be sure you first find out if you are in an area where a ban on drones is enforced ... then there are privacy concerns (no peeking in bedroom windows!) ..... and liability concerns (what if your drone crashes thru someone's windshield ... oopsy!)

If you need a drone for real estate then business has to really be good!  It's a great idea for very large, unaccessable properties, but for everyday listings...come on?!

Good for your "forceful" daughter in getting you involved with computers.  I can remember in my early real estate career, I bought an Apple IIE.  The year was 1983 before Windows came into being.  I never really did much with the old Apple.  But, 10 years later, it was a real estate agent friend, who basically loaded me up into his car, took me to the computer store, and razzle-dazzled me with the new generation of computers, loaded with Windows 3.1.  It has been an adventure since then.  But, must admit, I love Windows 7, but hate Windows 8!

Myrl, sounds as if you could have written the same blog using your real estate friend as your forceful one.  I never liked that "dos" stuff in computers.

Barry, this drone may become second-hand and cheap!

Vegas Bob, thanks for the feature.

Barbara, you say no now, but you may be using a drone before you know it. I have see some of the videos they can generate, and it does look pretty cool.

Barbara S. Duncan  I will be looking for the future article to see how this turns out.  Given your daughter's track record, maybe she is not wrong with this one.

I need to chirp in about drones. Bear in mind there is a learning curve to flying a drone.

I would hire someone to fly a drone over a property your wish to have eagle eyed views of. I have had several drones over the years and have not mastered them yet.

Here's one I have that has a good camera.

There is a park nearby where drones are allowed to fly.

It has been a pleasure knowing you, Barbara. I enjoy posting on your blog and enjoy all your blogs.

Makes my day when I see a new Barbara Duncan blog. I also enjoy seeing Anita's posts as well.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you, Don.  These old repeat blogs are fun.  I accidentally found this one and had to laugh since we really are hiring someone to take pictures.  You have been so good to help with all the blogs!!
