Trivia 289

I want this to be information one just usually doesn’t hear.  If you have I would like to know if you haven’t all the better you’ve learned something today.  With that being said here is the information for you to consider today.

Do you know why the groom stands on the bride’s right side?  Well it seems that in olden times the groom friends would kidnap the bride and hence the groom would stand on the right side of the bride to defend her from jealous rivals.  Why you may ask on the right side because the vast majority of people are right handed and hence the groom’s right hand would be free to defend the bride.

Now go out and tell the world of your new found knowledge.  Smile it will make people wonder what you’ve been up to.  Join us tomorrow for another journey into the wonderful world of Wordsmith.  Click on the link below.  Who knows you may learn something along the way and some of the words may even bring a smile to your face.

Hi James.  So that won't work with left handers.  Who knew?

Where were those kidnappers when I got married?  They would have been doing me a favor.

James, have to like this one, I am left handed! Like Roger, the first time I was married I should have stood on the left side and lt her go! Enjoy your day!

As a woman who's had 5 husbands, I can attest to the fact that the groom does indeed stand to the right and until this very minute, I did not know why. LOL.

James- so I suppose if your groom were left-handed the bride would either have to defend herself or come to his aid.

Also James, the bride may want the groom far away from her bridesmaids. At the time of the wedding, at least (haha), she does not want him grabbed away from her by her 'ladies in waiting.' Now it may take a day or two, when this same bride - now wife -   is willing to give him away to any passerby. She may even be willing to pay someone to please take him:)

Good morning, James. Talk about some of the tales  of the strange but true. As the late great Paul Harvey used to say, "now we know the rest of the story."
