The heartbeat of social media is humans. The goal for businesses and the people within them is not to "do social" but to be social.

Even "being social" is often not enough. We must be socially relevant. Some of my agents work hard at it, others have embraced only enough technology to still do their job  effectively with having IDX sites and learning to text and email, but don't do twitter or facebook or brand themselves other than our brokerage... yet they are very very successful.

Hi Tammy. Thanks for the comment. Interesting as a consumer we have always hired realtors who we have connected with personally, never just because of a brokerage. I truly believe agents who are not investing in their own personal brand are leaving opportunity on the table, not just professionally but also personally.

Hey, Pam Moore -- good to stumble across your stuff here.  I like what you have to say!  Excellent social execution is important, but social media activity alone is not a substitute for a good marketing strategy!  I know, for the agents I work with, ultimately they are selling themselves.  So having that personal branding right is extremely important.  The really successful ones I know have established a solid image in two areas ... a professional niche and a personal niche.  A successful Realtor might be known as "the guy who really knows the Heights" ... and also "someone I feel comfortable trusting because of their knowledge and integrity."  

BTW, I'm subscribed to you now on Stitcher, and looking forward to more podcasts.

I agree with you 100% Chris. If you check out our content you will see the recommendation of both a business strategy and plan as well as marketing plan are core to success. For us it's marketing 101 and busienss 101 that too many in business today are simply forgetting.
