Shift Your Mindset and Make Your Business Work for You

As a new or experienced real estate agent, you know how important it is to lay the foundation for different aspects of marketing.  Usually, the way most people market their business is by using techniques taught by trainers or shared by colleagues, but I would like to share with you some unique ideas to make your business work for you.  Even if you only apply one or two of these ideas, it could make a huge difference.

Make One Day a Marketing Day

One reason agents fail to grow their business is that they don’t promote their services consistently.  And the reason for this is that they are so busy doing everything else to keep the business going that they actually don’t have time to keep the pipeline full.  By dedicating one day for marketing, you can get very focused and productive with your marketing without being distracted.

Choose Only One Target Market

It may sound counter-intuitive to focus on just one target market when you can think of many that could benefit from what you offer, but that is how things actually work. The more specialized you become, the more irresistible you will be to people in that target market. This is because you will have developed a high degree of knowledge and experience about it – and that will make it very easy to speak with the people in your target market. You’ll know exactly what they want and how you can provide it. You will speak their language and be able to read their thoughts because you will have become so conversant with the trends prevailing in that market.

Stop Old School Marketing

Despite the tremendous paradigm shift created by online marketing, it is not unusual for many real estate agents to do things the old way.  Here are some examples:

1.      Cold Calling

If you practice cold calling, consider other alternatives. Even if you are doing it well and can make 100 calls a day or you are one of those unusual people who do not experience body numbness, heart palpitations, and a creeping sense of ennui, there’s two reasons why you should stop.

First, for the time you spend doing it, you could be using a much more efficient way to get a much higher response rate. Second, you are limiting the number of people who would be interested in what you have to offer simply because you are trading time for dollars. Instead, learn the basics of creating a website, blogging, and social media networking. You will be influencing people even when you are asleep once you have set up your platforms. If you don’t know how to do this, then simply hire people who specialize in it. The money you spend will pay back for years to come.

2. Advertising

Expertly written ads will pay in multiples, not just cover your basic costs. If your advertisements aren’t yielding a positive ROI than either hire a copywriter or study the topic and become better at it.

3. Postcards

Once again, this does work, but why not take advantage of emails, autoresponders or ezines, Why use snail mail when you can send prospects information in seconds? By leveraging the skills of real savvy marketing experts like Internet marketers and copywriters, you will quickly realize that old school ways of doing business are very limited. They don’t take advantage of the huge leap forward technology has given marketing efforts.

Money Multiplication Mindset

Think of your goal in real estate as a money multiplier. This is a completely different mindset than those who regard their work as a job. When you free up your mind, you will free up your income. There are literally hundreds of well-researched ways of getting new customers, but you will only have the energy to learn about them and the initiative to follow through on them if you change your mindset. Think, for example, on the vast body of researched techniques offered by people like Jay Levinson in his Guerrilla Marketing books and seminars. And that’s just one source.

Get a Mentor

While books and courses are a great way to learn more about marketing, there is nothing quite as effective as a good mentor. Someone who is experienced in the things you want to learn is about ten-fold more inspiring and informative than the most careful study course.

Create a Virtual Team

Your job is not to do all the work yourself, but to find people who can handle the less interesting parts of your business to free up your time on sales and developing customer relationships and referrals. In other words, automate, outsource, or delegate. If you reckon that your time is worth $50 to $100 an hour, stop doing $10 jobs like cleaning your office, typing memos, or all the other busy work that can steal away from your time and attention.

With just a few tweaks to your marketing efforts and a shift in your mindset, you can easily change your business so you earn more income, work less and have more fun!  And remember just one small step can make a major difference for your business. Start small, think big and show yourself what you can do.

Such great points. This year I have made a lot of changes to my business and have really seen it grow.  From updating my website, to increasing on-line marketing and contact clients.  Thanks for sharing.
