Can You Handle One More Story on Robin Williams?

Perhaps you are like me, and have just about reached your limit about the amount of information you think you need to absorb regarding the death of Robin Williams. If ever there was a lesson to be learned about the high cost of celebrity…this is it.

The media, the vultures they are, is printing everything they can get their hands on to satisfy the unquenchable blood thirst they think we must have. So, we have been bombarded with every minuscule detail of Mr. William’s life. Sadly, we even know the final, tragic final moments of his life. What good does it do for any of us to be involved in such a private moment? What is there for us to gain?

The analogy that I used of the media being vultures is not that far off. The media has helicopters flying over Mr. William’s home. What is to be gained by that? Does a view of his home’s roof bring anyone closure? Imagine your husband, or father taking his life and you are deep in grief, and you have helicopters churning over your home.

There is naïve part of me that says…if only Robin could see the outpouring of love towards him by the entire world…if only he knew how much he was loved…perhaps he would still be here today.

Unfortunately, unless your family has been touched personally by the ravages of mental illness and depression-you really have no way of understanding the hell that person, or his family goes through. Those of us on the sidelines try to rationally judge the situation…yet the suffering person and their family live in world where rationality doesn’t exist.

For any of us to say that this or that drove Mr. Williams to take his own life is out of bounds. It is not kind. None of us were with Robin in the final moments of his life. Can we just remain silent? Can we just be supportive to his family? Can we just celebrate his life, and not his death? There is no need for any of us to cast judgment. If you have an unkind word to say…bite your tongue. If you feel the need to write a disparaging comment…get up from your computer and take the dog for a walk. The world is overflowing with hate right now, don’t add to it.

Robin, I and the world will treasure the moments you made us laugh; and the moments you made us cry. You brought us joy, and made us smile in a world gone mad. That was no small feat.

Maybe the media is trying to distract us from the riots in St. Louis, the barbaric cruelty and murder in Iraq, and all of the other serious problems in the world.

No doubt the pharmaceutical and psychology industries are looking to "cash in", by warning everyone who is depressed to get help (buy more pills, spend more hours at the psychologist).

     Having said that:

Mr. Williams was entertaining, inspiring, and a true comic genius.  Now he should be allowed to rest in peace.    Thanks for all you gave us, Robin Williams.

You have added some interesting commentary regarding the media...and sadly, I think you are pretty much right on point. Thank you for sharing!

Tom, I think Fred's (comment number 1) says it best and I couldn't have said it better.

Although he had money problems he was far from homeless or without resources.  The man had a lot of issues.  Money and fame do not make us happy.  Often behind humor is lots of pain.

Fred added a great deal with his comment. Regardless of the media's motivation...we all end up feeling so violated. No one's life deserves to be so invaded. The media has taken us all on journey we had no business being on.

What prompted me to write this was all the crap his poor daughter has been put through by all the idiots posting the most horrible things to a statement she made about her dad. What kind of a moron do you have to be to say something to a daugher about her father's death? May God cause their computer to crash and burn, their power to go off and never come back on...because they have no business on the Internet!!!
