Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-What is your Word Worth?

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-What is your Word Worth?

Do you pay lipservice to people or is your word

Whether in a personal relationship or professional, when we give our word that we will get something done, people expect us to follow through on it. Do you??

Unless you prove to others that you can't be trusted, most people will give you the benefit of the doubt, until you fail to do what you told them you would do in a timely manner.

If you run out of time or some snafu occurs that prevents you from doing what you said you would do in the time element you suggested, then by all means, JUST CALL AND TELL THEM.  "Hey, I ran into some problems, is it okay if I get back with you on this tomorrow?" Even a brief e-mail touching bases will let them know that you haven't forgotten about them.

Once you break your word, people have a tendency to maybe give you one more chance, but THAT'S IT. After that, you're like the boy who cried WOLF!--no one will really take you seriously and you lose credibility.

Just my thought for today.

Good morning Gayle. The mantra that was drilled into our heads by my parents, "Do not dirty the steps to this home". Keep my word isn't a choice, it is my responsibility.

How wonderful it would be if we lived in a perfect world with no snafu's. Just pick up the phone or dash off an e-mail or text message.  People do understand, but don't lose your credibility by not doing what you said you would do when you said you would do it.....whew!  Who said all that?

I don't have a problem with MY word. It is the OTHER GUY that says one thing and does another. Most of it I have found is LAZINESS.

Hi Gayle - Because of our industry's reputation, people may be less likely to give us the benefit of the doubt. For that reason alone, we always need to make sure we always deliver on our promises, and go beyond that whenever we can. That will make us stand out from the crowd and win us loyal and appreciative clients.

Noah, sometimes they still are in these parts.

Kristin, like-minds....ahhhh....I'm in good company!

Gary, yup....could be, but sometimes people just say what they think someone else wants to hear.

Dick, underpromise, overdeliver? Maybe not. And sadly, our industry is not highly trusted.

Lucky if people give us a second chance. Maybe if we have good excuse, like a hurricane? LOL. But seriously, never break a promise/word.

Gayle, I actually think people "are their word" and that is my measure of their character.  I do give people a second chance but after that, I begin to trust my gut and will avoid doing business or having a personal relationship with someone who is not accountable.

Gayle- very thought provoking.  BTW, I came over from Joanna's reblog of this.  I tend to assume that I can trust the word of those around me and it truly is disturbing when you find that you can't.

This is a big one. If folks can count on us, it's huge. Our words and actions have to match up. I remember this lesson with my children - if you say you're going to be somewhere at a certain time, you'd better show up. That's one level of trust, and obviously, we are going to be late on occasion when circumstances happen beyond our control - giving notice is key.  As for the truth - it's the only way to speak. I have no problem saying " I don't know, but I'll find the answer."   I know you are a woman of her word, and that is PRICELESS.
