National Honey Bee Day ~ August 16, 2014.

Honey Bee Day

National Honey Bee Day is on the third Saturday of August and now in its 6th year. Each year the organization picks a new theme to promote community awareness of the bee industry with three primary goals:

  1. Promotion and advancement of beekeeping.
  2. Education the public to honey bees and beekeeping.
  3. Make the public aware of environmental concerns affecting honey bees.

To find and support local honey bee associations click here plus you can sign up your local honey bee group as well.

Here in Connecticut we there are many local groups you can join.

Connecticut BeeKeepers Association

Eastern Connecticut BeeKeepers Association

Back Yard BeeKeepers.

To find local Bee Keepers and supplies simple google “Your State Honey Bees” or “Your state Apiaries”.

David, we have been thinking of getting some hives.   One of our neighbors has a couple of hives.

     Thanks for your encouragement.

I did not know about National Honey Bee Day David. Bees are so important and there should be no sting in celebrating a day for ail the cross pollinating they do and all the honey the give us.

I had no idea there was a national honey bee day.  I love bees and honey so long as they do not head my way. Once was stung and had a horrible reaction so I will appreciate bees from afar.

David - thanks for the information on honey bees.  There is nothing like pure honey.  I didn't realize that here was a national day.  I love buying the pure honey at the farm stands.

David, there are a lot of beekeepers in this area.  We had a very large bee hive, like the size of a basketball, in one of the bushes on the side of the house... Glad to see winter come and the bees  leave.

Hi David.  The honey bee has been in trouble the last several years.  I heard 30% of the population is gone.  Not good for us.

I'm always on the lookout for some dark buckwheat honey.  So many beneficial aspects to adding a bit of honey to our diets.  Nature's nerve tonic!
