Is "Industry Observer" Getting My Points.....and Yours?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Don Sabinske, Sabinske & Associates Inc. 539MN

I’ve come back to the Rain to write yet another post.

This time it is about the disappearing points.  It is kind of interesting to sit back and watch them go away…..12 here, 20 there, 70 now.

Wow, I wonder where they go?  And, do Zillow and Trulia give them to that weird Industry Observer that I saw recently on the roster with 163,000 some odd points with only one blog post, and you can't click on them to see what that blog post says?

Industry Observer, if you are getting my points, you are welcome to them.  I probably won’t be sticking around much longer anyway.  When you call about the missing points, they blame the algorithm.  Ah, yes, the infamous algorithm   Who cares? Just fix it!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

You know, I love it when the people who have over a million points say that. They must have cared at some point!

Don, Amen to that. I am sorry to hear you are still losing points and this obviously should not happen. Good question as to who this Industry Observer really is? Have a good weekend..

I have over a million points because I've been blogging here for 6 years.  And no I don't care about them.  And no I don't think they matter if you have over 500k

I certainly can see why people would get upset if they were trying to get to "free" status, that makes sense.  But in all honesty I write mostly for consumers.  I love the people here and I love learning here.  That would all remain even if the points system just vanished.  That's my 4 cents worth.

I think they don't like some of us.  They love the millionaires who post all the time.  I post everyday, too....most of the time.  But, the points keep vanishing.  I got some back yesterday, and now they are gone, along with a few more.

Hmmmm......

Like Tammy said, unless you're blogging toward free status, who is really watching the points that closely.

Don...I have said it before...Trulia has killed the goose that layed the golden egg. It is sad that those who PRETEND to run AR do not stand up for what they created!

Don,

Looks like you stirred up a hornet's nest but I have seen this in many people's blogs. I hope you stay too many good ones have left. I have had a few points disappreared yes I care they are not the main reason I am here but I like to keep climbing to the top and if my points disappear then I won't!

Don, I cared about the points when I was working towards a free account.  Now?  They're only about ego and don't have a flippin' thing to do with getting the buyers and sellers to call us.  I've slipped down the national Leaderboard a bit lately because I just don't have time to chase extra points with more blog posts than I have time to write and more comments than I have time to leave.  So be it, it's not truly important.

Frankly, they could stop giving me points at all and I'd still be here tomorrow and the next day because what brings me here:  the people, the learning, the business, all have zip to do with points.  So letting some missing points screw with my enjoyment of the Rain?  Not going to happen.  It's a choice, and I've made mine.    Bill

And to think my clients call me and say, "I found your blog about the neighborhood I'm interested in"...not "I saw that you  have eleventy gajillion points on Active Rain"....

70 points???  OMG  That's worth what?   A new toaster?  A year's supply of peanut butter??   Nope . . .  nothing is what you get with 70 points so why are your knickers in a knot?  Your account is FREE so live free!

I've been on Active Rain for 7 years.  Yes I have over a million points.  Yes at one point I thought having all those points meant something.  Then I realized that what meant something was the friendships I made and the business I gained from being here.   Life's priorities aren't about points.  BTW there are Rainers who have lots of points from commenting and/or referring others who hardly blog themselves.

I'll mirror what Bill Spear said.  At one point I cared about points only to the extent that I wanted to be #1 in my area.  It was never so important as to really complain or consider leaving AR.  The value of being here is in building relationships and leads.  The points are completely irrelevant.

I'm with Bill Spear on this one.  When I was working towards a free account, the points mattered, after that, I honestly don't care.  I have over one million points and that and a nickel get me nothing.

What do you mean, but not sticking around much longer? Where are you going?

I don't have many points, certainly not enough to have a free account and no, I don't blog often enough on here to really care about the points but I wouldn't leave this group of amazing people for all the tea in my mothers house.

Yes I enjoy being ranked 2nd in my area because of my points, but by being a member of this site, I've learned that I also needed to focus on my own site. I've learned more from this site & the friendships I've developed from it than any points can give.

So, I guess what I'm saying is Don, I get where you are coming from. Points do matter & it's a bit of a slap in the face when you loose them after you've worked so hard for them but there is just so much more that this community has to offer and I hope at the end of the day, you'll get to see that too.

I hope you stay.

Point wise, I am number one BY FAR in my market. There is another agent in my market who nets close to ONE MILLION a year in commissions without ANY AR profile.

Would I trade my standing for some of her income? You bet! Would she? Not in a million years! Why? Because outside of the free account, points have no value.

The "money" in ActiveRain is the banter back and forth with agents from across the country. This is FAR more effective than my yearly CE credits.

I've lost over 1,000 points today alone. It seems that each time I commented or edited a blog it took points away from me.  Strange and a bit frustrating....

It does kind of take the wind out of your sails when you see that happen, I am estimating that I lost about 10 thousand points this month,  After that lame excuse that was offered I am just trying to ignore it for a while and will figure it out in a month or so when more time is available
