Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden Presents 100 Zimsculpt Sculptures

I have not been to the gardens to see this display but plan on visiting soon before the display ends.

I did a little research to see what Zimsculpt is and found this great website describing it as well as showing many of the sculptures that are on display.

Please visit ... Zimsculpt

I am definitely excited to visit the gardens and walk about and discover and enjoy the 100 sculptures.

I found this information about Shona works which is similar to the Zimsculpt and this is what they had to say about this art ...

"Shona Stone Sculpture is produced from the remarkable talent of the indigenous people of Zimbabwe.  The sculpture reveals the African link with their strong mystical heritage.  A host of ancestral-spirits guide and control the Shona’s daily living experience, which in turn, has great influence on the sculpture they produce.  The Shona sculptors believe that every rock contains the spirit essence and their sculptures are shaped by the will of the spirit within the rock.  They believe that during the sculpting process it is the spirit, not the artist that transforms the stone.

The most commonly used material that the Shona use is Serpentine stone, which comes in a variety of colors and levels of hardness.  The hardest and darkest is Black Serpentine."

Visit Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and enjoy these works of art.  This art will be on display at the garden through September 28, 2014.

Judith I love botanical gardens, my father always had me go to them as a child and I learned so much... it is fun to see now they have expanded to sculptures and even paintings...Endre

All you have to do is look at that elephant to know that there is a lot of spirituality in this display.  Thanks for the photo and the research, Judith.  I learned a lot all ready this morning!

Very interesting history surrounding those sculptures, Judith!  They also have a delightfully simple but unique appearance.
