A Cute Mouse Catcher

My daughter lives in an urban area of a large city and has a 3 story apartment and of course it is not uncommon to have mice. So she rented a cat from her friends twice. Apparently the cat doesn't even have to catch the mice but the odor of the cat is enough to make the mice move on to someone else's.

Izzy Meets Gidget and Finally there is PEACE

Recently she got a new pet, a 8 week old cat named Iggy. At first her 4 year old Wired Hair Terrier didn't care for the cat but they have made peace after a couple of weeks.

Izzy Meets Gidget and Finally there is PEACE

And what is really good news is that the mice are GONE!

It is amazing when pets come to peace with one another.  For several years I had an American Eskimo dog, and a cat that shared their bed together.  The cat adored the dog.  But, the dog only tolerated the cat!

Glad to hear that there's peace in the home.  And I hope that Iggy keeps up the good work.

Smart mice or there was somewhere close that was cat free. When we had housecats they seldom caught mice. They were too well fed to bother with the mice.

Kristin, I am so allergic to cats that it is such a shame-I would have this mouse catcher and squirrel scarer nearby because of how powerful the odor is in repelling rodents-and they are so beautiful! What an adorable baby!

Hi Myrl,

I think that Gidget is just tolerating Iggy but she loved my two dogs here in California and I am sure she misses them both.

Hi Gabe,

Yes I hope that Iggy doesn't slack off the job. Gidget likes to chase birds but she is way too slow to catch them and probably wouldn't know what to do if she caught one. For that matter she used to bark and run after the cats on our fence at the other house so it is good that she likes Iggy.

Hi Than,

I think the smell of the cat is enough to move them out as I do not think the truly domesticated ones would eat the mouse. Of course my neighbor got two cats from the railroad yard and they went in and out of their house but every morning they would go through the yards and catch gophers and mice. I was glad they visited me as  I had a gopher who was making numerous dirt piles until it was captured.

Hi Joanna,

I like cats and dogs both so I am glad I do not have allergies to them but I am sometimes allergic to grasses, mold, peanut butter when I have a cold.

Hi Kristin, thanks for sharing your pest and pet stories. I did not realize that cat's odor will make the mice move.

Hi Kwee,

I did not either but apparently so as the mice are gone out of her apartment. Sort of reminds me of cockroaches. People call the Exterminators and they move to someone else' house.

Hi Debbie,

I love little terriers. I had been keeping my daughters for 3 yrs of grad school and now she took her back and I miss her desperately though I have 2 other cutie pies. Mine like to chase squirrels, skunks, and cats. Our terrier is a good hunter and snifts in the air when outside but she was not fast and sort of jerky when she got ready to run. Now my 2 chihuahuas are pretty quick and used to chase cats at our other house.
