Sarah - I've never seen free fertilizer. Never imagined a whole pile of it being available.

Michael,

Les was driving around all the construction north of the city and came upon it. My first reaction was...are you going to what? But I am glad he did bring some back. My trees were in need of some nourishment.

Tom,

That is what happens during development in a rural area. Hundreds of acres north of Eastvale is still rural. This is probably the last dairy farm still in existence in Riverside. Soon it will be history. Planning development is already talking about building a shopping mall or an amusement park.

What a great idea!  With California steeped in drought, we need all the help we can get with greening up our plants and lawns.

Wow, that is a large amount of fertilizer! I can only imagine how much they had starting out to make the decision to give away some from a pile that large!

Myrl,

I agree wholeheartedly! I see so much water going down on grass at our parks and in the community that never turn green no matter how much is used. A little of this stuff will provide the outcome people are trying to achieve.

Suzanne,

I had the same thought.... To have so much excess and not to be able to use it for what ever reason thankfully turned out to our gain.

I lived in Chino, & South Ontario many years ago and moved to Corona Ranch nearby.  I can recall taking shortcuts through "cow country" to avoid some of the freeways.  We took advantage of the free fertilizer any chance we could get!

Sheri,

Change is coming, but this looks like one of the last things to go. Thanks for the comment. This is a local tradition and treat we can still enjoy today!
